John Bradford a retired science teacher says that looking at the falsity of the reasoning of neo-liberal market economists who dominate global thinking today is not a pretty sight. Almost as if the urge for competition and consumerism and its effects on climate change will be balanced by the market's invisible hand.

It does get one more mentally active, when Bradford also points out that the emerging and increasing interest in new types of Christian beliefs which George W' and our John Howard seems mixed up in. Such misguided Christian groups could be causing more harm to the globe by supporting big business and even war than having concerns about modern man's overdone passion to produce and make money and the resulting effects on nature, as some of our Christian Saints had warned about in the past. Certain of our Pentecostal Groups seem hoping for a second Coming of Christ, probably half hoping that the most horrible predictions of St John the Divine will come to past with billions of people killed, till the Savour arrives to fix everything. Sounds more like science fiction, having the hope that even if we do make the mistake of not believing in modern man's hand causing accelerated climate change, some sort of spiritual-type personage will turn up and fix eveything. Let us pray that it also includes our ability to figure things out better and look well ahead.

As a native of Scotland I am not sure if I can comment, however I will, ask some questions. If nuclear waste takes 240,000 years to degenerate is it not possible that we will have another ice age, (something that gouges valleys and moves mountains) creating a difficulty for survival nevermind safe and manageable storage of spent nuculear fuel?

Sadly the main issue for the man/woman on the street is how much will it cost ME. Using finite resouces nevitably the cost of energy will increase, would it not make sense to promote energy conservation (quality insulation in this country) neutral energy use.

Could the massive amount of money it takes to build, sustain and store the waste of a Nuculear Power station could be spent on providing solar panels at a rediculously low subsidised cost, (dont know how it would work with the weather we have). Every home could have them, cheap heating (whoops forgot it was Aus) low energy costs etc, watching the telly getting beat at cricket.
