This Dr. Death issue is a serious one. For a Doctor to be permitted to cause so much destruction and despair, whilst being complained about, shows a failure in our complaint handling systems that is such that we should all be alarmed!.

The problem with this matter, our politicians, our hospitals, our railways, our airports, our Government etc., is the same one. The complaint handling systems are set up, directly or indirectly, to protect the reputation and position of the Government and in doing so they also protect those that are failing in their duty of care. The bullies always seem to be able to do what they want regardless of the harm that they do and when the victim complains (or retaliates) - the victim gets vilified, ostrasized, and victimised and blamed and nobody cares - For some reason big bullies have more rights. Sound familiar? It is played out in schools and in society all the time. Criminals also have all the rights.

It is important for the Government that the Government is consistant in relation to the handling of bullies and complaints so as not to set a precedent that might mean that they might be made to answer and held accountable. We should be alarmed as there is only one way to go when incompetance and misconduct is rife and is covered up and that is backwards.

This problem is exacerbated by the deliberate misinformation that the political arm did not know about the problem. It all has that familiar ring of those poignant letters from the Gulags where prisoners blamed all their problems on the bureaucrats and pursued their respective cases in the false hope that, "if only Stalin knew what was going on". The cruel historical truth was that Stalin authorised every individual sentence. And the cruel truth of the "Bundaberg Massacre" was that the Beattie Government knew exactly what was going on and made the cynical calculation that they could get away with it due to the size of their majority and the low visibility of the rural minority, Beattie's Kulaks.

Make no mistake, if Beattie is still there after the next election, the urban South East will have squandered any right to govern the rest of Queensland.

How many post-mortems are done in the State for non-coronial deaths. Once it was very common in hospitals as an audit and a training tool. They are rare in the extreme in private and uncommon now in the public system...cost too much. The public also don't like them because they hurt.
It also kept doctors informed. We learnt from mistakes. There are also Death and Complication Meetings. Were these in Bundaberg?
By the way, there are specialists other than surgeons.

Dr Death, aka J Patel of Oregon USA went out of his way to operate whenever he got the chance ! He organised a surgeon's party to race off to a train derailment to 'rescue' victims, Armed,so we are told, with a voracious appetite for operating well in excess of his capabilities. Anecdotal evidence by Tony Hoffman, he forgot to include an Anathetist - infering, Patel was going to 'gungho' hack, butcher and maim innocent victims.Fortunate for all, called off at the 11th hour due to lack of response from his colleagues, and the speedy response of Queensland Ambulance service. But for the Grace of God..how many more of his patients would have succumbed to his surgical malafeasance.
Despite Tony Morris's assertions JP stand trail, I very much doubt he will ! Dying on the Operating table is not a criminal offence.Evidence from patients attesting his negligence is hear-say, Dr Fitzgerald Q.H's advocate could not find any case that warranted investigations. The initial 87 deaths attributed to Jayar Patel was a figment of hesteria. Mr Morris QC, was swept away with. That a Royal Commission could be so blatantly side-tracked by the Media, is a lesson of 'trail by media'.
His Honour, Tony Fitzgerald must be rocking in his chambers, to find his protege..T.M got it sooo wrong. His style in Court was demeaning, and aggressive.
I watched the Fitzgerald's Trial of Gerry Ballino, and Terry Lewis, and I can vouch his demeanour of IMPARTIALITY. He never took sides. He was there to hear the evidence and the truth.
The Qld Police service will come back empty handed, and all the HYPE Beatie's grandstanding will count for nought in the US. His case is worthless, and circumstantial, and I guess in saner moments, he will reflect the $5,000,000 investment in the RC will see us 'smart state' of the Art, smitten, looking stupid and finally ending up with EGG-ON_YOUR_FACE mister Premier.
