Testing ASEAN’s resilience amid the global debt surge : Comments

By Eko Setiobudi, published 16/10/2026

The IMF Fiscal Monitor April 2026 estimates that gross global government debt had reached nearly 94% of GDP in 2025 and, under current fiscal policies, could touch 100% of GDP by 2029.

ASIAN is not Australia, but we are inexorably linked through common trade links and suffer similar consequences from short sighted and reckless financial management.

Australian net debt position is projected to rise from its current $1t to $1.29t by 29-30.
That is a net debt rise of $290b.

There is little positive to show for the increasing debt levels but the negatives of a major housing crises, 130,000 homeless Australians ( whatever one of those is now), and little evidence of care or concern for consequences of mismanagement, built entirely on a philosophy of the psychosis of ideology which centres on the current Labor Government’s approach to spending like drunken sailors or children set free in the lolly shop!

Our future now rests in the hands of a determined and admirable Queensland red-headed female who refuses to bow down to the madness of the rulers who wear no clothes, as thread bare as their wasteful policies!
