My view is that we need both the Fourth and Fifth Estates, competing to uncover the truth and holding each other accountable. Neither deserves our unconditional trust.

The most trustworthy journalism is not the journalism that agrees with our suspicions of power, It is the journalism that demonstrates its claims with verifiable evidence, acknowledges inconvenient facts, distinguishes allegation from proof, and corrects its errors regardless of whom those errors favour.
