Artificial intelligence and the elephant in the data room : Comments

By John Mikkelsen, published 17/7/2026

AI can be shameless - make a mistake and it will correct itself and then continue as though it had never been wrong.

The latest fake video of Prince William and Kate talking drivel about soccer clearly shows that it cannot be a source of reliable information. It might have its uses, but anyone who watched the ABC thriller, ‘The Capture’ knows what we could be in for.

When I first started using AI as a source of information - just because it came up first on Google - it did warn that it could make mistakes, and other checks would be wise. That’s not done anymore.

I think AI can be a great benefit; but it has now been shown that it can be used to lie and put out serious misinformation about things and people by people wanting to use it that way.

But, better than AI are people like John Mikkelsen who investigate and get people thinking and talking about something that has already been misused - as it will be in the future - and the serious dangers involved. The potential damage will make the ‘misinformation’ censors make a fuss about now, look like toddlers’ fibs.

Spot on, ttbn. Yes we too have watched each series of 'The Capture' on iView, which is pretty scary. There is also an older series 'Person of Interest' on Netflix now which is also predictive of what can happen when our lives and movements are monitored by AI.
