I agree with much of what the author says, but he glosses over the hardest issue – how to create a Palestinian state that is capable of both effective government and entering a sincere and sustainable commitment to peaceful coexistence. Currently “Palestine” comprises two distinct geographical areas with two rival semi-governments. One is corrupt and incompetent and deeply unpopular. The other is an Islamo-fascist terrorist organisation whose main reason for existence is to annihilate Israel and its Jewish population. Neither could properly be considered a state.

The risk in “recognising” a Palestinian State when it doesn’t exist is that it could legitimise and perpetuate the status quo, especially if acceptance of Israel’s right to exist is not a pre-condition for such recognition. That is in the interests of neither side in this tragic conflict.
