We don't hear the word ‘waybackers’ these days. In my youth it was used to describe ignorant people who didn't keep with to reality.

It is still recognised and described by AI as a description of:

‘... people from remote rural, or “outback” areas, historically used in Australia, New Zealand and the United States to describe someone unfamiliar with city customs. It is derived from the phrase “way back”, meaning 'far in the past or a remote location’.

Given the global changes to conservatism, the recognition of the dangers of climate hysteria and expensive energy, multiculturalism, mass immigration, the China threat, etc - everywhere except Australia - waybackers fits Australia, its political class, and too many of its people to a tee.
