Ukraine-Russia war in 2026 – where do we now stand? : Comments

By Yuri Koszarycz, published 9/2/2026

Four years in, Ukraine’s war looks less like a turning point than a test of endurance, diplomacy, and winter survival. January 2026 tells the story.

I would not like to go through a winter in Ukraine, especially during a war; they certainly have my sympathy.

I don't want to criticise Yuri or his article too much this time.

But I look at the section 'Strategic outlook: Ukraine's assessment'.
And I have to ask myself, 'Is the man deluding himself?'

"Negotiations without compromise on core principles: Peace talks offer a platform for dialogue, but Ukraine's leadership maintains that peace cannot and will not come at the cost of sovereignty or territorial concessions."

Peace talks?
You have no leverage, just a comedy show named Zelensky that can't even talk properly and whose getting all his own people killed.

Quit complaining about Russia's 'maximalist demands'
No NATO, which means 'No security guarantees',
(stop trying to create safety for yourselves by creating WW3 for everyone else)
There are now no nuclear safeguards as all treaties have expired.
Also you're not getting any ceasefire.

Any talk of peace negotiations is a clownshow, and Russia has probably already acknowledged that it will win on the battlefield to end the war.

You're all acting like you think the war can be won by manipulating the gullible and naive western public.

If Ukraine is not willing to accept losing territory, then how does it propose to take it back?

Maybe they're secretly building the death star or have made technological advancements in the field of 'magic'?

THERE ARE NO UKRAINIAN BATTLEFIELD OR TERRITORIAL GAINS.
That being the case, not sure what the article is even about.

Ukraine is only going to lose more men and territory, you know that right it's not the first time I stated it.
What are you even fighting for, the wars lost for you?
If you want to throw more lives and territory away while continuing to delude yourself and live in misguided false hope, then that's your perogative I suppose.

How many towns and cities have you lost since your last article, that I stated you would lose?

You can't take the territory back.
That means you either lose the easy way or the hard way.
- Keep on losing the hard way if you must -

It is simply this.
Is it right or good for the world at large to accept that one country can simply move in and take over another country.
All without any good reason.
I think not.
Allow that to happen once, and it sets the stage for the future.

The ringleader of the invading country is hoping that over time people will forget his unjust and unlawful actions perhaps?
And come to see his motivation as reasonable?
I think that won't happen.
The world cannot allow it.
Were Hitler allowed to continue, where would we be now?
I know it is only conjecture, but I reason that the world would be a far less agreeable place.

It is clear the rest of the world is still asleep.
I am sorry to say it, but it is time for them to wake up.
The Ukrainians need assistance.
This absurdity must end.
