Nuclear is the most reliable path to affordable electricity : Comments

By Ronald Stein, Olivia Vaughan and Steve Curtis, published 5/2/2026

Continuous electricity is skyrocketing, driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, data centers, and electrification across industries, nuclear power appears to be the affordable choice for all 8 billion on this planet.

Indeed, and as I pointed out yesterday in this same newsletter, with nuclear, firming comes free. Firming for a typical solar/wind power supply (firming not included), costs a fortune, even more than the billions that go into building it. "CLEAN, WITH FIRMING INCLUDED" -- a great slogan for the somewhat self effacing nuclear industry.

That's is a misleading image, Indyvidual, not a revelation.

Wind turbines don't use diesel to generate electricity. The diesel on site powers auxiliary safety systems and emergency shutdown functions when grid power is unavailable, just like backup generators at hospitals, data centres, and yes, nuclear plants.

Having backup power does not mean the primary system "runs on diesel". If it did, then nothing modern would qualify as clean or reliable.

Yes, Indyvidual, that's misleading too.

//I mean, is there anything that is still true these days ?//

Yes, and verifiably true, too. But not much of it is going to show up in your Facebook feed, because Facebook has learned that you're not interested in any of it.

Facebook's algorithms are just feeding you what it thinks you want to see.
