Small Modular Reactors are a game-changer for Africa and the world : Comments

By Ronald Stein, Robert Jeffrey and Olivia Vaughan, published 23/7/2025

Africa deserves the same opportunity for development that the West took for granted, unburdened by a green agenda that keeps the continent energy-poor and dependent.

Small modular reactors using Thorium, such as being researched by Copenhagen Atomics would probably be a better proposition. They don't use any external cooling and will be fail safe in operation.

Hi David,

The issue I have with Copenhagen Atomics is what the five year reactor life does for the economics. On the positive side the reactors produce U233 (20 years to produce enough for another reactor, so the company will eventually not need U235 if it succeeds) and could be very useful for powering container ships.

Fester.
Please go to the Copenhagen Page at

I believe that the time of 5 years that you mentioned should be 50 years

Regards,
David
