Obviously this article has been overtaken by events to some degree, but in some respects its central argument still holds true. The best pathway to lasting peace is for Iran to recognise Israel’s right to exit, give up its nuclear weapons ambitions, allow full transparency and accountability in its civilian nuclear program, and negotiate normalised relations with the USA and regional neighbours, including ceasing support for its terrorist puppets in Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis.

Unfortunately, that is extremely unlikely under the current theocratic Islamo-Fascist regime. The destruction of Israel is not merely a preference that can be abandoned if it proves too hard. It is central to the regime’s reason for being, its core ideology, and its legitimacy in the eyes of its supporters (admittedly diminishing in number). In 2017 it installed a new clock in Tehran’s Palestine Square designed to count down the hours until Israel’s total destruction, which Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has predicted will happen by 2040.
