Roads to war: the EU’s security action for Europe fund : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 2/6/2025

The fund is intended for one, unambiguous purpose: war. The weasel word 'defence' is merely the code, the cipher. Break it, and it spells out aggression and conflict.

Dear Paul,

.

Avoiding a third world war is a very noble objective, but an almost impossible task.

To have any chance of succeeding, I suggested we should first “foster closer partnerships and cooperation among nations of like minds …”, and, when that has been achieved, “ … build on that”.

In other words, start with the possible before tackling the “almost impossible”.

This is a method I have encountered professionally when setting up an international network. The aim is not just to set up a network but to create a vibrant, welcoming community that generates growth and prosperity and is open and attractive to new members.

I feel we have a better chance of success by seduction than by coercion.

Hi Banjo,

Thanks for the response.

I'm troubled by the term "like minded", that to me implies exclusion, division, separation, suspicions and a whole lot of other negative implications. These negativities lead to the very conflict that we should be trying to avoid. I freely admit I am anti America (not anti Americans). That doesn't mean I'm pro China, or pro Russia, or pro anyone. Why America, because I believe America since the end of WWII has been seeking to dominate and exploit the world, for the benefit of American Capitalism, it has been belligerent towards those ("the enemy") it sees as a threat to its dominance and power. We should not be shocked by Donald Trump, he is doing what all his predecessors did, but with far more transparency. Trump is ugly and crass, Obama was handsome and astute when it came to pushing the American Capitalist agenda, but they both were serving the demands of that same master.

BTW, don't get the wrong idea, reading the above, it would be easy to say this bloke is a Communists! No, I'm not pro Communism, that's just another failure. Put it this way, because a person doesn't like strawberry ice-cream, doesn't automatically mean he likes chocolate ice-cream, I tend to be a vanilla ice cream person myself, something in-between. Also I don't use the word "defence", only in its true context, I use the word militarism. Australia spends $40 billion on militarism each year, but nothing on defence!
