A thief’s mentality: Trump, real estate and dreams of ethnic cleansing : Comments
By Binoy Kampmark, published 13/2/2025Not only would any aspiration of political independence and Palestinian sovereignty be terminated, it would reach its terminus in the form of tourist capitalism and real estate transactions.

It has been obvious for decades that "Palestinians" will never live peacefully with Israel, it is their stated objective to destroy Israel. Trump offers an alternative peaceful solution which you call "ethnic cleansing" but is in fact more akin to eviction or relocation. You say Hamas has not been destroyed and you are right because most Palestinians are Hamas. You criticize Trump but offer no solution yourself. A two state "solution" would simply reward Hamas for it's terrorism & ensure continuing hostilities forever. The Jews belong in their ancestral homeland, the Palestinians can comfortably live in other Arab states which appear to be slightly less hostile towards Israel.

I didn't even read Binnoy's article & feel confident in not being too far off the mark with saying that he is the kettle calling the pot black.
Trump is an opportunist who employs many whereas Binnoy is an opportunist who has no apparent inclination to help creating harmony, he only stirs but carefully enough as not to jeopardise his cushy Taxpayer funded number ! Posted by Indyvidual, Thursday, 13 February 2025 12:21:38 PM

I almost never agree with Binoy, but this time I (mostly) do. Of all the stupid, malicious, illegal, unworkable and harmful measures that Trump has announce in recent weeks, this is almost certainly the worst. For the President of the USA to propose illegal ethnic cleansing as a solution to the Gaza crisis is horrific enough. But Trump surely knows that it is unworkable, will inflame and antagonise existing grievances (dispossessing Palestinians?) and make it harder for potential actors of good faith such as regional governments to build a workable outcome when the war ends.
The only possible excuse – which Binoy hints at – its that this is another scene in the Theatre of the Absurd that is the Trump administration. It is outlandish and shocking, but we know that he doesn’t mean it; and he knows we know. It may, as Binoy says, be a bluff. I hope so. But it a stupid, vile and dangerous one. Denys You say that what Binoy calls "ethnic cleansing" is in fact more akin to eviction or relocation. But that is pretty much the definition of “ethnic cleansing”. October the 7th was the Catalyst for what must eventually unfold in Gaza.
Gazan population are the Ace card for Hamas “Terrorists”, followed by another Ace, the Israeli hostages; for a successful conclusion to the conflict, hostages need to return to Israel and the population of Gaza will be moved out, like it or not. As a brilliant alternative, in face of inevitable defeat, Hamas could surrender to Israeli demands, lay down their arms voluntarily and negotiate a settlement which will include the expulsion of all terrorist forces, and the temporary or otherwise removal of the Gazan population to regional Arab Countries as Trump has proposed. There is no two state solution acceptable to any party in the conflict. Posted by diver dan, Thursday, 13 February 2025 2:59:32 PM

Oh dear; everything we hear is based on error.
Palestine does not exist. A name was dreamt up by the Romans, just to give a name for the people who remained after the Romans drove the Jews out. They called them Palestini. The country was still known as Judea. Then those living there called it Palestine. Everyone has been sucked in. Posted by Bezza, Thursday, 13 February 2025 3:33:50 PM

Rhian, So, trying to prevent perpetual grief is now as you describe above ? Your ways have failed, give the new crowd a go ! Or, are you scared of them getting it right ? Posted by Indyvidual, Thursday, 13 February 2025 3:40:33 PM

The names “Palestine” and “Palestinian” have a complex and very long – though fascinating - history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_name_Palestine So what? Almost none of today’s nation-states or ethnic groups existed in identifiable forms in the same territory 2,000+ years ago as they do now. Many modern names for people and places derive from the Romans – Scots, possibly German, Romanian. It has no bearing on their present-day claims to be a people or polity Posted by Rhian, Thursday, 13 February 2025 4:13:05 PM

If US forces enter Gaza tasked with evicting the population, they will do everything to complete the task even if the streets run with blood.
The world is going to be horrified at what will unfold. It will make Bibi's genocide look like an afternoon picnic. U.S. citizens will themselves be horrified at what's being done in their name, and there will be protests that dwarf the Palestinian students. Trumps popularity will nosedive when labelled a war criminal as hundreds or thousands of US servicemen arrive back home in draped coffins. His power base will be greatly diminished, but on the other side he is a lame duck President so it won't really matter. But I don't think he'll want to be remembered as that kind of President. Putting the record straight on the ancestral homeland of the Palestinians . Hi Banjo,
Gaza is an outcome of founding a nation on the "we were here first" principle. Israel is the outcome of a nation embracing the principle of equality. Thank goodness Australians chose the latter. Had the presenter of the talk discussed why the Palestinians first advanced the argument he might only have convinced the audience of the consequences of the intolerance of outsiders. MGM: Make Gaza multicultural. End the hatred and misery. Posted by Fester, Saturday, 15 February 2025 6:48:34 AM
