Near me a cluster of 2 br units was recently completed. One of the off-the-plan buyers has moved in with 3 cars, a trailer and a caravan, all parked on the street. I think the developers were expecting retirees not young families.

Small houses may not be the answer for several reasons. To charge an EV you need off-street parking. You may have a dog, need a childrens play area, a vegie patch and plan to install a rainwater tank. I suspect more and more we'll see people crammed into the wrong sort of housing.

The author states:

"The Sydney-Melbourne rivalry means an idea in one place must be matched in the other."

Here is the heart of the matter.

Boom and bust cycles from mining and agriculture concentrate more and more people into cities.

Immigration concentrates more and more people into cities.

During Covid some people were moving from Melbourne to slower paced coastal communities in Qld because they could work from home.

Giving people more say in where they work opens up a whole array of benefits - it does, however, require a shift in managerial attitudes.

The benefits of work from home have now been eroded.

Changes in attitude is what is needed.

Unfortunately, not doing "more of the same in 2025" sits firmly in the too hard basket.

What is amazing is, every person needs a bed and somewhere to live, somewhere to cook and eat, a toilet that isn’t locked at 6PM. a place to bathe, and finally a shelter from the elements.

None of the above is achievable living on the footpath.

There is no housing crisis.
There is a housing problem created by the overpopulation crisis.
Too many humans.

Albanese is going to import 1.3m net-migration over his full term, which is about 70% higher than the huge Rudd record. Nobody of influence cares in the slightest. It is not even reported in the media.

Both Albanese and Dutton are 100% locked in to mega migration and housing pain, with near-100% support from the power players.

The Australian fair go has been replaced by United Nations open-borders net zero. Both Albanese and Dutton have done the full grovel to their preferred partner for rapid population growth - Modi India.

They import immigrants because they have been bribed by their big business donors who want more unemployed Australians and desperate immigrants they can exploit. Keeps their current workers in line as well. And with no unions to oppose them or educate the new immigrant workers they are going to get away with it forever. Get used to seeing shanty towns and encampments as permanent parts of the new Australia.
