Shutting down debate on abortion is a concern for us all : Comments

By Scott Prasser, published 15/1/2025

This means that the Queensland parliament cannot discuss, ask questions, make representations, draft amendments or even accept citizens’ petitions expressing concerns about its own legislation on abortion.

Well said Scott.

This shameful, totally undemocratic act, not just by Crisafulli himself but by all the gutless LNP members who supported it, has had too little attention paid to it.

This must be overturned.

Crisafulli should resign and the rest of the LNP should hang their heads in shame.

We need to stop kidding ourselves that their is a meaningful "debate" on abortion or anything else political. Most "debaters" still vote for the same politicians they disagree with: too down-trodden or silly to break away from the left leaning Liberals and Labor or the ridiculous and dangerous Greens.

"....debate about any issue, including one as important as this."

Frankly, No it's not important at all, nowadays. It is being flogged around by a hard religious Right.

The majority of Liberals do not agree with them, nor do the ALP or the Greens. In other words, the vast majority of Australians.

This argument, driven by an activist minority, has done nothing but weaken LNP/Coalition support over the decades.

I just wish that its supporters would go and create their own Party and thus give the Coalition a better chance of winning Elections.

Victoria is a good example of the ball and chain effect of this minority in electoral appeal.

Well thats a rubbish position to take. It's like saying shutting down discussion on the right to rape your wife is a concern for us all. I am sure there are a bunch of wing nuts who think they should be able to take away a womans right to choose e.g in the case of rape or abortion. Sane minded folks will agree it's a ridiculous point to debate.

Next up, we should be able to have a debate on making gay bashing legal /s
