The BOM is the most unreliable government department of all unreliable government departments. I understand that some farmers pay private forecasters for the truth.

If ttbn meant that the Bureau of Meteorology is finding it harder to make accurate predictions because of climate change intensifying, then I agree completely with his post. If he meant something quite different then I am happy to disagree with him!

In the end, weather prediction is a guesstimate; however, there is a huge technology backing up the guesswork.
It’s this technology which makes the guesswork close enough to maintain a reliable ocean forecast that must be credited with saving untold lives. Maybe we should be great full for that one.

But long range forecasts are probably on a par with predictions of election outcomes. (Guess).
The further out in time the prediction, the greater the chance of inaccuracy.
BOM is not God!

I find the wind forecast is lacking in effort to provide more effective data. On the GBR for example there are many navigation beacons yet wind readings from far away land bases are used to predict conditions on the water. This makes for rather unrealistic information. If I need the conditions for an area 30 miles off the coast I get "last report from ...70km away ! What would be involved in mounting wid vanes on navigation beacons to periodically send data to collection points ? Many times we get a forecast for very slight 5 knot winds when in fact it is blowing at 10 knots. To a small boat this is quite a difference. A beacon mounted wind vane would give the velocity from right there & then & not from many kilometres away inland ! Such data could be accessible via the VHF radio by tuning into a designated frequency.

We went out yesterday afternoon but before we left I asked our Google pod what the latest forecast for our area was. "Cloudy, with a maximum of 28 degrees". That would have been from BOM. I then asked "Any storms?" and the AI bot's reply was "Sorry, I don't understand".
Anyway driving home around 4 pm the rain was that heavy on the home stretch I could hardly see the road. And we received 46 mm in the gauge in about an hour!
Meanwhile, Donnie was back sunning himself on an old outdoor chair in the backyard this morning after our sudden deluge yesterday afternoon. Maybe he's a day late like BOM or there is more rain coming - overcast at the moment.

Beg to differ on the evidence provided while global warming according to climate science is making weather and predictions more unpredictable.

Further, good analyis should from an expert in climate and rely on neither qualitative statements nor cherry picking data.
