By Ben Rees, published 4/12/2024

The election of Donald Trump has thrown contemporary economic commentary into overdrive. It has also exposed the limitations of contemporary economic knowledge and comment.

If conventional economics turns out to be correct then the Trump honeymoon won't last long. Tariffs on manufactured imports and deportation of farm labour should increase US inflation. A Trump campaign ad asked 'are you better off than four years ago?' In late 2025 the average American might think the answer is no. That could spell the end for populist politics.

In Australia's case we're getting by exporting boatloads of rocks and importing people. When that slows down we might also be in trouble.

High rents and housing unaffordability are sending people to the poor house; that convenient scam (according to this author), is creating an excess of the poor, which is intended in order to lower inflation..working like a dream for politicians with healthy housing investment portfolios.

Then, while they improve their investment outcomes at the expense of the poor, welcome to another useful scam, NDIS. Huge numbers of the usual unemployable are now working for the Government under the guise of NGO’s: Down comes the unemployment rate!
Politicians become fatter and smoke bigger cigars!

Philosophy & Economics are rather incompatible as philosophy mostly disregards reality due to the influence from ideology !
