Penny Wong as prime minister of Australia : Comments

By Peter Bowden, published 3/12/2024

Asian, female and gay, and extremely competent, she would put Australia as the leading nation on the world map. Even Anthony Albanese would give up his power to Wong to ensure his party stayed in power.

Heaven forbid! She is worse than the rest of the Labor ministers put together. A dreadful person.

"I have one last task for Penny Wong. She might even be able to do this as Foreign Minister – to end the ceaseless cycle of war that has plagued the human race since the beginning of recorded history. It, warfare, is built into our genetic makeup. We can never stop it, but we can make the United Nations more effective in stopping war."

Ukraine:
"This attack is wholly unprovoked and without justification. Russia alone is the aggressor, and Russia alone bears responsibility for the bloodshed and suffering that will follow."
- You're delusional if you think this position takes into account the true events of how this conflict came to be.
You can't prevent or end conflicts if you're not honest about how we got here in the first place.

- No NATO in Ukraine -

All you would get from Wong is boilerplate United Nations policies, open borders, net zero, loss and damage, climate refugees, racism scares, etc. As if we don't have enough of that stuff from Albanese.

Senator Wong's views and beliefs are central to all that is wrong with the ALP. It is similar actions, views and beliefs from the senior ALP Ministers that have made the ALP unelectable as the next Government,

However, the writer, Mr Bowden, praise for Wong doesn't surprise me as he had previously stated "A bewildering wave has propelled...."

Living in a Socialist fog can create these views, I suspect.

Oh fa' cryin' out loud. Wong to end war? Perhaps while she's at it she can organise to make every Sunday a bright and sunny day to end the weekend, perhaps with a pleasant sun shower around 4pm to take the edge off. Each of those things are equally likely.

Why is it that whenever an ALP government gets into electoral hot-water, they think that bringing in a women will fix it? Gillard, Kristina Keneally etc. And when such woman fails miserably, they blame misogyny.

Wong is a mildly competent head of DFAT. That's all. But its a portfolio where its difficult to screw things up and most Foreign ministers are reasonably well thought of. But put them in the rough and tumble of domestic politics and the faecal matter will hit the cooling device.

I have met many politicians over the years, including Peny Wong, and used to have a similar view to Peter’s. She is very intelligent, listens to people, is on top of her brief and mostly competent. She also has what the ancient Romans prized in politicians – “gravitas”- and can utterly dominate a room by the force of her personality. I disagree with some of her policy positions as I do with parts of the platforms of both major parties. But I used to think she had the qualities to make a very effective leader.

Now I’m not so sure. Her participation in the “mean girls” attacks on Kimberley Kitching was vicious and relentless and may have contributed to Kitching’s early death. She was also involved in politically weaponizing the Brittany Higgins rape allegation. We have given vocal support to Ukraine but could have done more in practical terms: the decision to bury our Taipan helicopters when Ukraine asked for the to be donated was not a good look (though this was more of a defence than foreign affairs decision). And Wong’s handling of the Middle East conflict has been poor and unprincipled.

More broadly, Peter’s list of Wong’s achievements are mostly her simply doing her job of advocating and implementing her government’s policies. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I don’t see anything in his list that marks her as particularly suited to be PM. And his wish list of things he would like her to do is, as mhaze points out, risibly unrealistic.

mhaze also makes a good point about Labor turning to female leaders to dig them out of holes of their own making. A similar happened here in WA with Carmen Lawrence

#It couldn't get any more stupid, or could it ?#.. Ind.,

Staggering!

It’s thinking such as Bowden’s, which was a direct cause for the demise of Christian morality, supplanted by personal ethics. The Bowden’s of this world consider themselves greater than God himself!

Even the Pope has fallen victim to emotional clap trap as a guiding principle for Liberal Catholics.

“Onward Christian Soldiers, marching as to war” was a warning to Christians not to make way for compromise and appeasement. Look at the mess of the West from appeasement policies and rainbow ideology espoused in this article. What cowards are the elite by-products of the current University output: There are loud calls for Trump to early on, stamp on the current crop of traitors in Academia who, like this poor lost soul Bowden, turn the guns on tradition and those that wish not to fall for the con job preached from the secular pulpits at University by the same!
