A nation of takers : Comments

By David Leyonhjelm, published 21/8/2024

The NDIS is widely known to be extensively rorted, with scheme providers charging participants several times what they charge non-participants for the same service.

The NDIS certainly is a very expensive abomination; but it seems that it was deliberately set up to be beyond the control of the appropriate Minister. So, as much as I abhor Labor, people need to get off Bill Shorten's back because there is nothing he can do about it. He can't say that because it would make him look silly.

Childcare? Just another way for the government to manipulate people. Anything the government ‘gives’ you has a price much worse than the money behind it: control.

The more you get from the government, the more the government has you by the short and curlies. In this, there is no difference between political brands. Plebs always wanting something for nothing are entirely to blame for creeping socialism and tyranny.

“There is no longer any disgrace in receiving government benefits”, and it shouldn't be, if you need such help. But, I recently had to fight against being bullied into an ACAT assessment to get stuff for nothing that would have people whose accents I couldn't understand hanging about in my private space.

NDIS is not the only organisation with “providers” recruiting people so that they, the providers, can get their snouts into the public trough. The number of private ‘helping’ companies is booming.

And, again, it is the we-are-all-socialists-now sense of entitlement that Leyonhjelm writes of.

Don't blame the government. Blame your own greed.

“What the country needs is a government that encourages self-reliance rather than dependence on the state. Unfortunately, there is no sign of that.”

And there never will be a “sign of that”. People want to be coddled and kept “safe”, and the politicians want to hang on to power and exploit the population's greed so that they can control everyone.

The unwilling contributors are the greediest takers. It's a culture that'll require very drastic action to change. It requires a less self-serving mentality. A NMNS will offer the least sacrifice to achieve that !
It has worked 60 years ago & would work even better now.

Indy,

"It (national service) has worked 60 years ago & would work even better now." It didn't work, it resulted in the deaths of young Australian's in a far off pathetic war in Vietnam. YOU said YOU dodged military involvement when YOU had the opportunity. But now YOU are an Old Fart, never likely to be conscripted for anything, you're all for it! How about a Seniors National Service for Old Farts on aged welfare with their snouts in the taxpayer trough?
