What makes this especially astonishing is how those same archbishops and school leaders sided with the Labor Party in 2017 over school funding using robocalls and letters to parents to campaign against the Turnbull Coalition government.

That's not true Steve. State schools receive the vast majority of funding but it comes from the states. The federal government pays more towards independent schools than it does to state schools, but it is still far less than the cost of educating a student.

It's true that most private schools have some sort of a Christian denominational base, but one of the fastest growing categories is Muslim schools.

In my view we ought to just give parents vouchers to spend on education and let them work it out. As far as I know, homeschooling, which is possibly the fastest growing sector receives no funding at all. As that generally entails one parent giving up an income the cost to the family is far higher than school fees.
