Not only is it a financial burden for debt-laden Victoria, the GP ties up public parkland at Albert Park Lake for months to allow for the set up and take down of viewing stands. The unbelievable noise of the car races also leads to many complaints by people who live within a few kilometres of the track.
All in all, the Melbourne grand prix is a blight on the 'garden city'.
