It is because a real, not Mickey-Mouse tele-communication alike competition will sweep away all the stupidity of a situation where those who have inherited access to a state coffin mentor undercastes on family business w o n d e r s where Australian egolitarizm (at least, show me a theatrical performance if even a low budget thriller prepared and played from own kitchen), skills (not requested de facto but connections),something of opportunities (is this land still terra nullius?) or simply luck (oh, is it a cause of ID or a mistake occurred upon Creation?) have been presented as a panacea.

I have to say that Australia has a long ways to go before merit and skill are the determining factors in getting jobs or even in the law and courts. People are hired because of clique or 'networking' for most jobs or contracts; even court decisions are determined not on evidence, but on connections.

At least in America there is a constitutional guarantee of equal protection under the laws. Fred misses that huge, important fact in his discussion. I understand that as an Australian who is accustomed to the society, he would not feel or see the difference.
-- Something too common in Australia, although it is one of the reasons that so many talented and intelligent Australians leave the country to go to live in America, the UK, or some European area.

If Australians want to blame America for all this country's failings and faults, that seems to be too childish and too normal.
The fact is that Australians have to grow up and realize that whatever is happening here is based on choices made by Australians.
