Lessons from the failed ‘Yes’ referendum campaign : Comments

By Scott Prasser, published 16/10/2023

After months of campaigning the failed Voice referendum will soon be behind us along with all its exhortations, claims and counter-claims, advertisements, all-round hectoring, divisiveness and general finger pointing.

I don't think any lessons will have been learned, or will ever be learned by our dumbarse politicians.

Academia, which is the cause of most dysfunction, will not allow any lessons learnt from being put into practice for obvious reasons !

I hope the press takes on board the comments that Warren Mundine made to them while he was giving them a blast. What he said was blatantly true. Recognition isn't going to solve their problems, getting on top of the physical problems on the ground is the elephant in the room which the urban elite ignore is what matters.

No lessons have been learned. The divide between the "UN net-zero" governing classes and mere voters has been made sharper than ever.

"Italy Momma Boy" Albanese, "Mother Superior" Katharine Murphy, and the pampered inner-city Yes voters are confirmed in their self-evident truths. Australia is an international pariah, its 17 million voters are wrong and stupid, and we're all hardened racists.

It's ungracious if not insulting for those on their moral high horse to say the majority of the voting public are racist liars. Perhaps some organisations with generous public funding should be cut back as they are not connecting. Those who are outraged seem to focus on 'lies' such as reparations, no-go areas and resource vetoes. However there are ample precedents to suggest they would be emboldened by a Voice.

I think the Yes defeat could be put down to cumulative irritants. When a plane lands or you attend a meeting we have to put up with 'Acknowledgement of Country'. As a US comedian says give the country back or shut up. While some remote people live in squalor and disease most of the talking came from well fed urbanites who have interbred with the despised colonists. I think that jarred with many but those on the moral high ground can't or won't see it. They should give it a rest for a while.
