Police should be investigating accusations of sexual assault not universities, which cannot even manage their own business of education properly.

If complainants are running to university 'committees' instead of to the proper authority, it is not unreasonable to think that they, (a) have nothing to complain about, or (b) they are just wanting to cause trouble and ruin the educational and life prospects of some young bloke they have taken against, or perhaps have received a knock back from.

"fact free", Alan? What are the facts, then? You are always rubbishing Bettina Arndt. When are you going to put your money where your mouth is and tell us why we should not believe a woman many of us have always accepted as being a highly qualified and experienced therapist; who actually deals with cases?

This weekend will be a good time. The article will be up for two days - plenty of time to get your facts together, and to regale us with your knowledge of alleged sex crimes on university campuses; your qualifications, and your suggestions on solving the problem, and how Ms. Arndt could learn from you and your wide experience on the subject.

The problem with these university tribunals is that they have very limited legal standing and even in these tribunals there is the requirement to follow due process and unless the student admits to committing the crime, he has the right to representation, access to the evidence etc.

There are plenty of cases where Universities have expelled students merely on the word of a woman who claims to have been harassed or worse only to lose the resulting court case and have to pay considerable compensation.

What these fascists do is assume that most students will never be able to take them to court.

Let the proven beyond all doubt, facts, decide guilt or not! And because it is absolutely possible beyond a shadow of doubt! Why don't we?

The propensity of university disciplinary councils to dish out disproportionate punishment on the flimsiest pretext is the reason to provide free legal counsel to those facing them.

Bettina Arndt writes elsewhere that she is suspicious of the '275 rapes a week' claim cooked up by Teals working on a survey of a mere 1.1% of the university population who bothered to respond.

If the figure was true, rape would be a spectator sport, and nobody would be doing much learning.

The AHRC Commission responded to this report saying, respondents were “self-selected students who were motivated to respond” which means these responses “cannot be regarded as representative of the Australian university student population as a whole.”

And, half the assaults reported were said to have occurred off campus in private homes, clubs and other outside locations.

Sexual assaults do occur, but you would have to be a real drongo to fall for the '275 times a week' tales from activists and trouble makers.

If you have an irrefutable, space-age, unbeatable lie detector then you are the first in the world. There is a reason that courts don't accept them so as with the justice system the civil courts, industrial disciplinary systems etc. the judgement will have to rely on actual evidence.

Unfortunately Alan lives in a world of his own, and gets the lie detector test from US TV. If lie detector tests were legal in Australia, we would hear a lot less from the #metoo crowd - none of this believe women nonsense.

Meanwhile, I would settle for less of Alan B's unworldly, uneducated drivel.

Unbeatable lie detection is a combination of CFR (computer facial recognition) and thermal imaging of the brain, which always lights up without exception, in certain areas when deception is contemplated. Even when the subject is a gifted and consummate liar!

It can be covertly deployed in all manner of situations, at border entry points and our courts to name aa couple of useful situations.

You're suggesting that a university tribunal wire up a witness, and use AI-run cameras and an MRI machine? You are clearly off your rocker.

A few questions:
1 How will you get these $m machines into the tribunal?
2 Who will pay for them and for the experts to run them?
3 As the accused is not required to testify or submit to this, and the assumption of guilt is not an option, the complainant can only be compelled to submit and testify.

As I said before, the tribunal is going to have to rely on real evidence
