I like that David Leyonhjelm brought up Morgan polling- I enjoy watching Adam Curtis- Century of the Self- where he describes the views of hebrews Freud and Bernays vs those of polster/ statistician Gallup. Freud saw western society as irrational and so therefore it needed to be controlled and hobbled within the auspicies of democratic despotism. Whereas Gallop saw western society as rational and understandable and self governing.

The argument about the rationality of the masses is one raised by Confucian scholars Mencius/ Xunzi as well as English John Locke/ Thomas Hobbes from the English Civil War of the 1660's.

Communists trust the masses less than many forms of government.
