By Tom Harris, published 27/4/2023

Many of these space pioneers would be appalled to know what Earth Day and indeed the whole environmental movement has become.

People did not demand "action to solve the environmental problems of the day". It was a top down control thing, which children and idiots fell for.

What contribution does Earth make to the Universe? SFA. Right there is its real value!

Best of luck to the dreamers.

Emotive garbage by head burier. Pretty words by a climate change denier. If this person was able to look at the evidence with objectivity, this piece would never have been written.

But I take his point on wind farms that need to turn 30 years just to offset the carbon created in their manufacture and what the bird kill will be by then including endangered species. All because of absurd fear mongering over nuclear power.

Nuclear power has killed fewer folk pew gigawatt than any other form of power generation including renewables. If we would seriously address climate change without tanking the economy, then there is no current and viable choice than nuclear as MSR thorium which has far fewer downsides, vastly less waste and many major medical spinoff upsides.

Speaking as an apparent idiot I think climate change is an insidious problem rather than a catastrophe. Hence coal should be phased out as soon as practicable. Outside it is 10C warmer than normal for this time of year and BoM says to get used to it.

Where I do agree with the author is that Earth Day has become a bit of a joke. The one hour lights out gesture is a painless but pointless gesture. Real sacrifice would mean foregoing animal protein, hydrocarbon transport and coal fired aircon, little of which is actually happening. Another form of delusion is the various types of greenwashing. This include mixing 10% hydrogen with natural gas saying it's temporary or buying cheap carbon credits which have no atmospheric effect. I'm tipping a greenwashing washing crisis no so much catastrophic climate change.
