Is it time to re-visit the gas to Queensland project? : Comments

By Jeffrey Wall, published 4/11/2022

We hear from the federal government daily that we face a critical shortage of gas - with prices for industry and households to rise by up to 50 per cent. At the same time power prices will rise by even more.

Adian. Fantasy? I've done more than fifteen years of research and came to it as a former science assistant for a power Authority.

Listen "genius", just 8 grams of thorium contains enough energy to power your house and car for a century. Cost of mining and refining 8 grams, $100.00. That "genius" is just one dollar a year!

Strongly advise, engage brain next time before putting mouth into gear. Next time also advise you speak from a little higher up!

Read a book. Try Thorium, cheaper than coal, By economist, Professor Robert Hargraves. Or Thorium, Super Fuel, subtitled, green energy, by prize winning investigative journalist and science writer Richard Martin.

And stick to something you know at least a tiny fraction of something about. Instead, as now, SFA!

Alan B.,
Former science assistant for a power authority? That's quite surprising considering your references to "the miracle cancer cure, the alpha particle, bismuth 213" which suggests you're quite clueless about the science.

Anyway, scientists may determine what it's possible to do, but it's engineers who determine what can be done cost effectively.

Who are you quoting?
(Or are you just resortng to a strawman?)

Yes, like all nuclear power, the fuel cost is a very small proportion of the total cost.
That doesn't change how silly the precision of those price projections you keep posting is (especially with the current inflation) let alone how stupid it is to assume that the actual price will be that cheap.

But the dumbest mistake you make is assuming that because I disagree with you I must be ignorant about the case for MSR thorium power. I am familiar with the case for it, but unlike you I'm also familiar with the case against it!
