"Free speech and outrage is the last line of defence against government over zealousness. Take that away and government may go out of control".

Australians need to wake up to that fact in their own country. They are allowing their politicians to go ahead with ruinous plans around net zero and increasing costs of energy, loss of industry, jobs etcetera - despite clear warnings in other countries. Why would they notice warnings from Singapore on loss of freedoms which could also occur in Australia if they remain complacent!

The complaining of this author is laughable.

The more educated have long realised and acknowledged the danger posed by universities in our own Western Democracies (I’ll insert oxymoron here : Don’t vote until you actually get one).

Kudos to Malaysia for stamping on stupid before it starts.

Evidence abounds as they say, of Christian societies unravelling because of out of control on campus thinking, forced onto students by a small minority of radicals at the top!

Well, one might venture to say, this is par for the course in Islamic controlled countries (dictatorships). Some of which includes a ridged dress code for property, i.e., Women.

Freedom of speech in such countries is non extant in the "free" press. And a precursor to absolute control by an absolute ruler/ruler. And sets up the population for BS military adventures as the lust for power and territory cannot ever be sated!

Dan, has anyone or any Authority decided what you can say or think including some of your extreme or radical commentary? And if such freedom is ok for you? Why not for everyone?

Young socialists often become conservatives in later life as they mature and start to think independently. And fairly normal for most folks as unrealistic utopian ideologies are replaced by world weary wisdom.

ttbn. agree with your comment on government Madhatter priorities on energy. A cable, wind farms and transferred hydro power is a huge waste of public money when manufacturing should have simply migrated to Tasmania.

And if shipping costs were a feature, then those costs could be massively reduced by nuclear power replacing extremely expensive fully imported shipping fuel.

Madness given sweet light crude that flows from Australian wells can be used as is as bunker fuel as is without anything more than chill filtering to remove sand particles and the soluble wax content.

Why we export all this production and import sulfur laden garbage, the end product of cracking the carbon molecule of tar like residue of distillation of sulfur laden heavy crude, is beyond me!

Except it adds to oil company revenue through their tanker operations around the globe. And gutless spineless governments of all political persuasions have allowed this madness to continue unabated along with the price gouging at the petrol pump, it allows!

The brain-drain of the best students from Malaysia being forced to go to Australian Unis is Australia's gain.

Naturally preceding commenters would be aware of the Malaysia's Racial Quota in Public Universities System. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Malaysia#Racial_quotas_in_public_universities

wherein:

The Malaysian government sets racial quotas for Malaysian Public Universities of:

- 90% Malays ("Bumiputeras")

and the remaining

- 10% for Chinese and Indian Malaysians.

This encourages many brainy Chinese and Indian Malaysian to especially go to Unis in English speaking countries eg. Australia, UK, US and NZ.

These Chinese and Indian Malaysian students in Aus Unis pay high fees cross-subsidising Australian students.

Many brainy Chinese and Indian Malaysian students decide to stay in Australia to our benefit.
