Can Australia partner Sri Lanka on path to recovery? : Comments

By Everald Compton, published 20/7/2022

It actually was pure genocide and it was ruthlessly organised and brutally carried by President Rajapaksa who last week was forced to leave and resign.

There is absolutely no reason for Australia to 'partner' Sri Lanka in anything; and we should continue repelling people smuggler's boats from there. They should try India, right next door to them.

Their only interest to us is what happened when they went overboard on climate hysteria and banned chemical fertilisers.

Australia should confiscate the all the stolen assets, money and investments made by the Rajapaksa family and their front companies and return them to the people of Sri Lanka.

I don't see why we should when India is a much bigger economy and has much more money. And is next door!

Money needs to be spent on more than recurrent spending, but, on making Sri Lanka much more independent as an energy user! Is surrounded by sea and could be converting seawater into fuel, fertilizer and plastics using known and dated nuclear (MSR thorium) technology.

Building infrastructure with borrowed money will create employment and wages which will boost the domestic economy.

Besides, India is well advanced in MSR thorium, nuclear technology! And could do worse than investing in home grown, endlessly sustainable, fuel production.

Energy it's production and cost containment the key to Sri Lanka's full and robust recovery!

Macedonian advocacy,

Could you explain how this brilliant plan of yours could be put into practice - legally and practically?

Everald’s history is a bit sloppy. The Tamils were not brought to Sri Lanka as slaves but are native to Sri Lanka having been there for at least 2,000 years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lankan_Tamils

I’d agree though that Sri Lanka needs help, and with a change of government there may be a better chance of aid getting to the people who need it.

And good on your church for sponsoring refugee families.

Evarald's analysis follows the now popular one among humanitarians today. It's all the white guys fault.

No, Evarald, it's not the white guys fault at all. The British people in particular had the knack of creating viable and prosperous colonies, and these countries, when populated by white people, became the most socially advanced and most desirable countries to live in. If the native Ceylonese and the Tamils are racist towards each other, don't blame white people for that, either. But take it as another example of how multiculturalism, like socialism, never works.

"Independence" from the cruel white colonial masters seems to have morphed into '"dependence" on the cruel white colonial masters. The problem with "Independence" for most third world countries is that it simply meant that the usually efficient colonial government got replaced by the elites of the locals. They were good at destroying everything the colonialists built during "wars of liberation" but they could not run a chook raffle at the local fete.

Okay, the Ceylonese wanted independence, well, they got it. They have now messed up their own country to a degree which is astonishing. Now you want us cruel white people to bail them out? For how long, Everard? Since PNG, Timor, and The Solomons became "independent", the Good Old Aussie Taxpayer has been bailing them out ever since. All we would be doing is taking on another economic black hole that would be dependent upon us forever.

Christian charity is all very well and good. But most of these people are not Christians and if the Christian churches in Australia want to bail out Ceylon, then have a cake stall and raise the money yourselves. But that is not what you want, is it, Everard? No. You want The Good Old Aussie Taxpayer to foot the bill so that you can bask in the glory of your virtue signalling without it costing you a penny.

China builds the Belt and road to ensure economic dominance. And all the west can think about is climate change, transgender pronouns, and bailing out the third world forever.

Yes, I found the Wikipedia post too after reading Everald's post. But what I find strangest is that he doesn't mention the ban on nitrogenous fertilisers which is what has caused the revolution.I think shipments of urea might be what they need more than anything else.
