A looming schools shortage? : Comments
By Ross Elliott, published 5/5/2022But first, old thinking about schools needs to change to allow for the opportunities that the future presents and to avoid an inevitable shortage of places in suitable locations.

Hi diver dan,
You're entitled to your suspicions, I really don't have any control over what you think. I don't really know how to easily prove what you're asking, except for you to ask Graham Young to compare our IP addresses. (and I certainly don't have any problem with you asking) If you take a look at this forum, you'll see that Alan B. and myself have completely different opinions when it comes to Putin and the war in Ukraine. http://forum.onlineopinion.com.au/thread.asp?article=21941&page=0 If we were the same person, surely we would have the same opinions on issues right? Beyond that, I swear to you on everything that matters to me in my life that this is the one and only account I've ever had on OLO. And FYI, I'm not offended in any way by your asking. I know this doesn't prove anything, but it's the best I can do. Posted by Armchair Critic, Friday, 6 May 2022 12:48:31 PM

I'll tell you all a story that happened to me this morning.
I went through the McDonalds drive thru and ordered a Mighty McMuffin on its own for $6.70 I had the change in my centre console, and so I paid with that. 2 x 2 dollar coins, 2 x 1 dollar coins, a 50c and a 20c I got up to the payment window and immediately the girl pushed the eftpos machine in my face. I said I'm paying with cash thanks and handed over my coins. (correct money) The girl stood there for at least 10 maybe 15 seconds looking at the coins / trying to count like she'd never actually seen real money before. Eventually, she looks over and starts to say the money I gave isn't correct. As she did that, I interjected "Is everything ok, it's $6.70 right?" So she counts again, is a way that told me she never had much experience in counting money before in her life. Eventually after about another 5 to 10 seconds she says, "Ah yeh, it's right, you're good to go" and I said "Thank you, have a nice day" - But seriously, my girlfriend has a kid in Grade 2, I give her coins all the time so she would learn how to count money and understand budgeting, saving and the value of money. I swear, this kid, only 7 years old and only just 1 term into Grade 2, could've counted that $6.70 faster and more accurately that the 16 / 17 year old that served me at Maccas this morning. And this story is absolutely no lie. It's true, and it happened just a few hours ago. Now I don't know what on earth they are teaching kids these days, but something must be seriously wrong in today's teaching. Posted by Armchair Critic, Friday, 6 May 2022 1:09:30 PM

What good are schools if kids don't learn the skills they need to be able to make a good life for themselves and be independent anyway?

Armchair Critic I thought you would realise that the 17 year olds at a McDonalds window were taught by our B grade teachers none of whom can count either. If a kid is going to be able to count, or do any math, they must be taught at home, as you are doing.
Ross you have convinced me, just not as you were trying to convince me. ttbn is absolutely right, we need to stop population growth, short hand for stop ALL migration. If we need skills, teach them at home, or send students off to where they are being taught. With any luck some wont come back, helping to stop population growth. It is about time we stopped spending money the current population earned the country on those who earned it, rather than blow ins only interested in what they can get from us. Hey Hasbeen,
Not to mention that any kid these days who actually does good academically, they probably won't stay in the country too long and take their skills abroad. So we pay for the development of skills, then we forgive the debts so it becomes our financial burden, and some other countries gets the benefit of those skills and we don't even get any tax back. Whats the point? And the rest of them, they're either doing gender studies or some other useless skill that produces nothing; - Or glueing themselves to roads, chaining themselves to trees etc in some weird form of protest that impedes the countries productivity for the sake of some stupid leftist agenda the universities indoctrinate them with for the benefit of the elites, who want most of us gone for the sake of depopulation anyway. And I'm telling you these gutter-trash that call themselves leaders are not the kind of people that any kid would look up to anyway. How many kids are going to say "When I grow up I want to be like Penny Wong or Anthony Albanese?" Answer = ZERO Its a truly sad state of affairs. I'd like to say surely we can do better than this. But in 2022, I'm just not sure; Seems more like we're in a race to the bottom. Posted by Armchair Critic, Friday, 6 May 2022 7:26:39 PM

Your becoming as “shrill” as Alan B, in fact I’ve aired my suspicions here you are one and the same.
Prove your not!
Dan.
