The Anzac links between Australia and Papua New Guinea have been allowed to diminish : Comments

By Jeffrey Wall, published 2/5/2022

Those links were greater back when PNG was still a protectate and administered from Australia. And granted full independence way too soon!

Today it's little more than a corrupt cargo cult culture with the hand perpetually out to virtually all comers? With further aid assistance throwing good money after bad? Moreover, it would be futile to get into a bidding war with China and a lose/lose arrangement for Oz!

Our situation means we need to look after our Pacific neighbours via our action on climate change! Ghat means ending our reliance on CO2 emitting fossil fuels! Plus, seriously beefing up our defense capability! And that means nuclear power and nuclear weapons TBC.

The ANZAC tradition is not to celebrate war; likewise, it is not a moment for the anti-war brigade to plunder the moment (ABC) with ideological opinion pieces, confusing the objective reason for celebrating ANZAC day.

ANZAC day is a Memorial Day. It celebrates the “fact” that, rightly or wrongly, our Australians, who were an emerging society built almost exclusively in that time, from Anglo Saxon ancestry, and instilled with a collective loyalty to Queen and Country, with a recognition of their obedience to the call to arms, and the personal costs born by every individual that participated.

ANZAC day celebrates the “men” not the “cause”.

To the point of the article, which decrys the lack of recognition towards ANZAC celebrations in PNG.
As with the Chinese encroachment issue and the independent stand of PNG, firstly we as Australians, (whatever that entails in our celebrated multicultural society today), should do some soul searching at home, and look around our own back yard, before looking over the neighbours fence offering criticism.

Most things connected with Australia's defence and security have been allowed to diminish, and nobody has shown any interest while it has been happening. All our useless politicians are to blame, but so are most Australians who have their heads up their bums and care only about themselves.

Thorium is very common and almost every Pacific nation has some useful alluvial deposits And with that power that's far cheaper than any renewable! replace aging and increasingly expensive diesel

Of some interest is the news that the UK seems to have developed a nuclear diamond battery? Apparently the core is nuclear waste (carbon 14) and encased in a nanoparticle crust of manmade diamonds. Which seems to turn radiation into an electric charge and continue to do so for thousands of years? Given the remaining half life of carbon 14?

We could manufacture MSR SMR thorium power plants here and donate some of them to our neighbours to allow them to power their homes and cottage industries with truly affordable power! And timely given the way oil prices are now skyrocketing! And improve their lives and economic circumstances far greater than throwing billions in foreign aid for decades!

look after our Pacific neighbours via our action on climate change!
Alan B,
Any info on how these Pacific neighbours are addressing Climate change ? I have been on the northern Islands of Australia & right up until very recently I have not seen a single (1) iota of effort etc. that would indicate even the slightest action on climate change. On the contrary more & more air conditioners, generators, high-powered boats, incessant air travel to southern centres, more & more cars, more & more refrigerators etc etc. are part of daily life there.
yet, the higher ranking of their communities have board the climate change bandwagon & our insipid bureaucrats (entirely Labor) are spending more & more Govt funding on them & themselves. Anyone for an ICAC there ? Didn't think so !
Just sit back & do nothing but spend our taxes & once the Chinese got a good foothold there start blaming Morrison ! Whatever happens, don't blame the Labor supporting incompetent bureaudroids !
