The 22 floor office complex on the Port Mortesby waterfront remains unoccupied. The lights are on at night - but no one is home.

Stiff cheese for PNG; they wanted China, they've got it. Australia needs missiles pointing in that direction.

They don't need the building just yet, they're just planning ahead which is something not really understood by our bureaudroids & wannabe Uni experts !

This is PNG's problem not ours. PNG invited the Asian giant into its territory, hoping, one supposes, to use it to leverage greater funding from Australia in some form of economic blackmail? And given that is so? Our reply should be, no thanks.

If you want to do a deal with the devil for your heart and soul? Then that's your choice! Simply put, we're not in the business of pulling PNG's (a cargo cult) irons out of a fire she lit!

If you don't want to be a new Tibet? then you should invite China to leave! As should S.I.

We will not be financially manipulated by clearly corrupt cargo cult cohorts!

Get an Australian building company to have a look at the site
on the QT if necessary and give the PNG a quote to fix the building.
If successful and possible it would be noticed all around the Pacific.
It might be that China Railways is still the owner.
Even so if the company reccomended the building be demolished that
would raise a lot of questions.

A great deal of buildings constructed in China are pretty shoddy, why would anyone expect better quality construction in another country by Chinese builders.

Bazz,
Even with China's backing they couldn't afford that.

As the communists say "capitalists will be hung with their own rope". Sad that we haven't woken up to the fact that we need to protect our own culture- even Ayn Rand said that one shouldn't do business with those whose philosophy is contradictory to your own- ironically her philosophy may have been a little contradictory to the west.

Individual, if the building needed a lot of work or demolishing
then as part of our aid program the Aus Govt paid for the repair
or rebuild and that would be heard all around the Pacific and
perhaps even further afield.
Any one considering Belt & Road might think again.

Belt & Road might
Bazz,
That it will be - for the most enterprising people whose language is the most spoken in this World !
Those who merely exploit their industriousness will be left in their wake.

I'm an Australian and I care about Australia.
But my interests lie WITHIN OUR BORDERS.

I don't really care what happens outside our borders, whether Solomon Islands, Ukraine or anywhere else.
All of that stuff is nothing more than an added expense for things that have nothing to do with us.

What we've got going on right here is enough to deal with already.
Our hopeless leaders can't even find emergency accommodation for flood victims.

China can go right ahead and build a new Tienanmen Square in the centre of Honiara for all I care.
