They weren't mates. Putin has said that it would be unnatural for a Russian president and an American president to trust each other.

With David Singer complaining about some countries not supporting United Nations resolutions on Ukraine: Firstly, he should be reminded about all the resolutions against the Criminal Apartheid Zionist Settler State in Occupied Palestine, which he is a leading apologist for regarding its mistreatment of Palestinians. Including Security Council resolutions, which the US - due to strong influence of its Zionist lobby invariably vetoes. The bad behaviour of Israel keeps continuing due to lack of enforcement. Now note how countries in the UN whose governments and mainstream media are protesting loudest about the alleged "invasion " of Ukraine by Russia are largely the cause of the basic problem which has forced Russian government led by Putin to take action. Which unlike Israel, hopefully a "one off" will fix the problem. A US sponsored coup in 2014 replaced a democratically elected bad government in Ukraine with a worse one that has been more obedient to Washington. Especially regarding its aim of weakening the Russian Federation and longer term dream of having a US puppet regime in Moscow. Russia was recently ASKED by presidents of Donetsk and Luhansk for military help to stop aggression by the Ukrainian government in Kiev trying to retake the area by force since they declared independence in 2014 - which has resulted in around 14,000 people killed. It remains to be seen how far Russian military action will have to go to permanently stop this aggression. Also, Russians need guarantee Ukraine will not join NATO. Of which the effective reason for continued existence has long been to keep the US in Europe, Russia out and Germany down.

Yes, it's a very telling statistic. We're constantly told that the world is at one in condemning Putin as an evil and unprovoked aggressor and yet this vote clearly reveals that in reality this hysterical and simplistic condemnation is in fact a minority position.

The Western propaganda machine makes sure that few Westerners know the real history and the full story of what's going down here. Maybe others in the world have a more complete understanding and a more nuanced view of good and evil. Maybe they've suffered themselves at the hands of those who think they know what's best for them. Maybe they know that Putin has done them no harm. And maybe they're cheering on the day when Russia and China can provide a steadying counter balance to US hegemony.

I don't agree with it, but I do at least understand what's driving this military action of Putin's. It's not because he's mad or bad. The use of force has been a last resort. Putin has tried for two decades to engage diplomatically with US-led NATO and to negotiate an agreement. His efforts have been ignored and rejected at every turn. A strong and proud country will not sit back and be kicked around forever.

I rarely agree with you David, but today I do.

Your explicit and detailed call for UN intervention is fantastic.

I'd say it should be repeated to every country where territory is stolen from the traditional owners during or after war and especially during an ongoing permanent occupation.

You will agree with that and write similar articles in those circumstances in future, won't you?
