They Ridd us of that turbulent academic : Comments

By James Allan, published 27/10/2021

I read the decision as an exercise in pettifoggery and misdirection, where the five judge panel and its joint judgment indulges in some virtue-signalling about academic freedom when it doesn’t count.

That rainbow rag The [one-sided] Conversation puts it quite differently: “The court held that JCU’s termination of Ridd’s employment was based on conduct that the intellectual freedom clause did not protect, as it was unrelated to any matter within his academic expertise.” I love that - In other words, the University was fully entitled to dismiss Ridd. He had no right to be a whistle-blower because he had no expertise in law!

Individual. That's what the fwit in The Conversation said and apparently what the judges ruled. You're on my side if you read it properly.

Little,
Would you have the figures to answer this question ? What percentage of Academics are not in the Public Service i.e. make a living based on merit ? Are any self employed & employ others ?
It would be interesting to see how much they contribute in general.
