We spend too much of the tax payers money on sport. Better that than spending it on religion or weapons.

SOME Australians are good at sport because the are no good at anything else; they simply extend schoolhood play into careers. MOST Australians are couch potatoes, who take vicarious pleasure in sport. They just want to be entertained.

I believe it has a lot to do with inherited genes. Which we got via the survival of the fittest over the longest most arduous transportation, then again as the rigours of the land itself sorted the wheat from the chaff? Then later with the addition of WW11 survivor genes, as many new Australians found new homes here?

Aided initially via compulsory sports in school? And the rollout across the nation of municipal pools etc?

Why is Australia so good at sport?

Because we are "the lucky country".

The Greeks believed that sport was important that's why they invented the olympics and philosophy.

The Greeks rewarded the winners with dracmas and consoled the losers with philosophy.

David F-

Your ancestors from memory- "The Hebrew's" did attempt to defend Jerusalem fairly well but yet they don't seem to have a good reputation in sport. But the Greek's started the Olympics before 70AD. I suspect that Judea considered The Greek's a competing and perhaps an allied power. Your view seems consistent with the Hebrew diaspora and I don't hold it against you- not that you care or should care what I think. It's interesting that secular Hebrews are still Hebrews just as secular Christian's are still Christian's.
