Coronavirus and the epidemic of fear : Comments

By Peter Curson, published 9/7/2021

We have now struggled to come to terms with the Coronavirus pandemic for almost two years. For those who can still remember past pandemics it is like reliving that world again.

"reliving that world again"? Only a couple of days ago I read that current lockdowns are the first ever! Who is talking BS this time, I wonder. History won't reveal another ballsup like this one visited on us by political idiots. The rotters are softening us up for the Great Reset, and stupid citizens are thanking them for it. Even as a world class cynic, I have been stunned by the gutlessness and malleability of the Australian public. How they can go on thinking of their political class and police forces the way they used to is unbelievable. Talk about heads in the sand and taking it up the backside.

Agree with most of this and just how ineffectual the economy first response has been, which has so dramatically failed!

As has the garbage propaganda, of just having to live with this virus.

Imagine if we'd responded to polio, or smallpox or tuberculosis with that rubbish mindset? Or failed to build/man hospital ships during times of war?

We are at war with a totally implacable inhuman invisible enemy!

It doesn't have guns or artillery, but has already chalked up more casualties and a death toll greater than two world wars and Vietnam.

The keystone cops that are charged with protecting a nation, Have rejected island quarantine (the best) on the grounds there are no nearby hospitals that are fit for purpose! Well, they have had two years or thereabout to remedy both!

But have quibbled over cost after throwing nearly a trillion at the economy instead! When what was always needed was a hard/fast response at the get-go/then only allowing in folk who had tolerated island quarantine

With our borders locked and bolted, our economy has not shrunk! If we had but used the brains we were born with!? Most of the trillion we blew! Could've been directed at nation-building infrastructure,i.e., a still doable, very fast train down the eastern seaboard!

Only thing missing, is/always has been, the political will!

Would've served as a safer option to transport fully vaccinated tourists up and down the line! I mean, if a sleeper train been made available, it could have avoided cramming in the infected with the non-infected in small, by comparison, planes!

The, I believe, rigidly recalcitrant, blame-shifting, duck shoving, rabbit in spotlight, bean-counting, incompetent Morrison government have railed against closed borders etc. Which to date, been the only measure that has prevented us from becoming India.

Moreover, the gold standard does not start with the Ruby Princess! Then relying on dumb luck/a super compliant population for a hallway decent outcome? Look at the debacle created when the non-compliant are allowed to flout the, these are not for us, rules!

What ttbn actually knows about infectious diseases, could be written on a passage stamp using a crowbar dipped in tar as the pen. Those who think he is spot on? Probably know even less?

Thanks. The old buffoon AlanB's petty response proves us both right.

It was only a few years ago that the thought of Bird Flu had some people very worried and near-misses with MERS, HIV and SARS and various Flu pandemics have made the world complacent. I suppose there were no votes in spending money on PPE or quarantine strategies. Even an Infectious Diseases Hospital was shut down in Victoria years ago and certain leaders kept insisting this outbreak was a hoax or would just "go away" in the warmer weather.

Scientists have been saying we were overdue for a global pandemic event yet we remained unprepared. This one is spread by those wealthy enough to travel the world but typically it's the poor who will suffer most.

Even during the Spanish Flu - before we even knew what a virus was - there were official government restrictions and mask-wearing in place.

Looking at India, the USA and now Indonesia I can only imagine how devastating things would have been without taking steps to identify and isolate outbreaks let alone develop vaccines.

Otherwise rather than rage against the only options we have at our disposal, "suck it up, Princess".
