If you lived in SA you wouldn't think that the government had any responsibility at all for health. No matter which rubbish is in power, the health system is a nightmare. I'm glad I have private cover, but I could still pop my clogs waiting for a government ambulance, or I could die in one ramped outside a hospital. There is not much that governments can do better than the private sector.

Hasbeen, agree with your take and means we needed to ramp up testing at all borders and not just once but at least three consecutive times with a simple 95% accurate three-minute breath test for those moving from country to country state to state, town to town, suburb to suburb. With those testing positive isolated in fit for purpose quarantine!

And the hot spots nailed shut until all the infected have been located and moved into, fit for purpose quarantine!

I'd have been happier if we but rolled out home test kits and allowed everyone to test themselves before going anywhere.

We also need to ramp up the production and testing of our homegrown therapeutics. The most promising one, an injection that kills 99.99% of any coronavirus load! Including the common cold!

The other, an out of patent nasal spray that can provide good protection if repurposed and used thrice a day. We can learn to live with this virus if we but had one or both of these in our medical cabinets! And fit for purpose quarantine!
