Life in Thailand’s southernmost border provinces, Narathiwat, Yala, and Patani has taken on a sense of normality over the last 12 months that belies a media-preoccupied insurgency that has largely disappeared.

Nice to know. But:

1. Any impact on Australia or need for Aus action is absent.

and

2. Murray does not contrast the very low level Islamist/Malay insurgency in southern Thailand

with the genocide of Muslim Royingyas in nearby Myanmar/Burma http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rohingya_genocide

1. Do you think that everything that doesn't directly impact Australia should be ignored?

2. Should he? I certainly don't think so. They've got almost nothing in common, and aren't really nearby at all (being over a thousand km apart)
