It would seem that evolutionary theory is inherently “racist”.

According to the theory groups of humanity have scattered around the planet and have been separated for tens of thousands of years living under very diverse physical conditions. How could it possibly be that under those circumstances each group/race has happened to evolve at exactly the same rate?

Of course they would not. Evolutionary theory depends on the notion that creatures evolve differentially due to differences in their living conditions. So it should hardly be surprising that Darwin wrote as he did.

What is surprising is that Darwinists of today don’t agree with him. (I guess it is thought better to be an inconsistent evolutionist than a racist.)

I'd've thought if you asked people what race they associated with crackers, most would say Chinese!

In "The Descent of Man", Darwin fully approved of inter-marriage as providing, in his view, the benefits of 'hybrid vigour' (I think, around page 99?).

His reference to 'races' in 'Origin of Species' obviously referred to all of natural life, and in his examples, obviously meant plants and animals rather than humans.

Racism is neither right nor wrong because it is a natural phenomenon. What many opportunists on the Left describe as Racism is more often than not utterly unwarranted.
When I lived as a member of the minority in indigenous communities, the majority of racists were anything but white. Now that I'm in a white community the majority of racists are white.
I'm inclined not using the term racist, I just call such people morons or Labor voters !

One of the worst articles ever published on OLO. Darwin was not hoping that some races of people would be exterminated. He was applying the scientific logic of his times which suggested the less developed races - meaning those with lesser technologies - could be exterminated by more developed races. This was neither his hope nor an expression of racist views.
