Thanks to the contributor under the name "Individual" for the comment last Wednesday afternoon. I am, however, curious. What did you or do you mean by "want to see your demise?"

Dr James Page,
I just realised that my remark sounds like as it if were directed at your writing, this was not my intention.
In far too many cases kindness is seen as guilt & that in turn is then opportunistically used as another platform for racists to bleat discrimination.
Kindness is indeed noble when it is genuine. I found that inter-racial kindness is nearly always exploited as I indicated above.
We see it often enough here how thankless hangers-on perpetually bite the hands that feed them.
I have yet to hear of a phrase that betters 'one must be cruel to be kind' !
Genuine, natural kindness has been targeted for extinction by our modern education & social engineering systems.

Hi Individual. Before I start, I should put you at ease by saying that I didn't interpret your comment as a personal attack - you were and are making important points. And I agree the "cruel to be kind" adage (comes from Will Shakespeare BTW) is very useful. Interestingly, that adage has come up in a number of offline conversations I've had on the article. Anyways, I took your comment about folk who wish our demise to refer to the phenomenon of war, and that's a valid point. In war, one attempts to kill or injure others, and it is tricky to argue that this is being kind. We could say more on this. And I agree that those who respond to kindness with ingratitude is a problem, as is the situation that society and our educational systems don't generally inculcate kindness. I didn't however quite understand your point about racists. Could you expand?

James page,
I have lived much of my life as part of a racial minority. I found that the real racists are those who perpetually bleat discrimination. Yes, there are those who use Race in conversation in jest & they're not racist. Racists are like journalists, always digging for the best/worst in a situation depending on what best fits their insidious agenda.
I know of blokes black & white who called each other by some rather racist terms in jest. They were all friends & they made fun of those humourless types who interrupted in conversations that were totally none of their business simply because they found the language used "offensive". Well, those of us who are reasonably normal find them offensive !
To answer your question, you just have to listen to ABC Radio or watch SBS & take in the racial hatred promoting rhetoric. An even more blatant example was that period of that integrity-devoid BLM hype recently !

Hi Individual. Interesting perspectives. Yes (if I understand you correctly) racism is much more complex than might appear on the surface. And (again if I understand you correctly) folk wanting to be kind can sometimes be very patronizing. BTW, I hope that this post in itself doesn't came over as patronizing - that is certainly not my intention! Thanks for the interchange.
