Unsurprisingly, many of the convicts loaded onto the First Fleet ships were not particularly enthusiastic about taking part in this giant experiment.

Not too fussed about being packed into rotting hulks and bound in iron chains, with those who barely survived used as whipped slave labour! Who'd have thought?

Well they certainly made a brave beginning, toiling, building in the cruel conditions and look what we have today. I'm glad to be welcomed here forty years ago and did not suffer as they did.

Imagine the outcome if they'd used educated people instead of convicts ?

Apparently there were some Africans onboard when the First Fleet arrived.

Taken on board as laborers when the fleet pulled in at the Cape of Good Hope for supplies.

I think 8 was the number and their descendants live along the eastern seaboard.
