I want my AMP back : Comments

By Chris Abood, published 9/9/2020

I worked for AMP from the mid 80's to the mid 90's as a computer programmer. It was a great company to work for.

There once was a time when the AMP building at circular Quay was the tallest building in Sydney. And a trip up to the top viewing platform was a joy.
There is the euphemism for the day Chris Abood.

You want it back! So does every other fair dinkum Aussie. And to do that we need to get back to the future before we allowed the insane power junkies/get rich quick mob, to sell our soul for a few crumbs to a new generation of robber barons/birds of a feather.

A time when our CEO's all had Aussie accents and were our mates as well as the boss. A time when we were the third wealthiest nation on the planet and a creditor one at that! A time when big bold ideas got a guernsey and funding. And cooperative capitalism ruled the economic roost!

A time when we took a knee to no Tyrant!

Nowadays, seem hell bent on selling everything not nailed down and giving away our best technology.

None starker than the gift to America of the pulsed light method of enrichment that, [I'm Here to help,] (foul-mouth extraordinaire) Kevin/11, gave away without a, beg your pardon, let alone a mandate from his employers/paymaster!

It just never ever semed to occur to that genius from the religious right, that we could have used that technology, ours, to value add to our uranium exports! And I know you know where this is heading.

I'm not sure about that. It's the functions, rather than the institutions, that are valuable. What, if anything, did AMP do then that nobody does now?

Your Q.
What, if anything, did AMP do then that nobody does now?

They were renowned for honesty and reliability. That’s what nobody does now, especially in insurance and investment.
