loudmouth2,
I clearly recall when, only last year, PNG & some Pacific Island Nations declared that they're looking at China for help if Australia doesn't provide more aid.
Well, let them because China will take them anyway, Australia or no Australia !
On the other hand if they think they can be 'independent' get them to pull their fingers out !
The Goaf agreed to PNG being 'independent' with 1.2 million/day from Australia since. Don't you think that money would be better in the wage packets of Australia's workers than PNG's Politicians ?
Let me see, 1.2 x 365=wow! 438 million !
What has PNG to show for that ?

It is just so funny how former colonies of the west demanded "independence" from the colonial powers, which then turned into total economic dependence instead. PNG was once a colony of Australia and it actually turned a profit. Today, run by corrupt PNG officials, it needs half a billion in Australian taxpayer money to stay afloat. Australia should just invite Indonesia in to take over the place and save us Australians money.

After Australia bowed to the demands of the UN to decolonize PNG we are seeing the return of witch burning and tribal warfare. It makes you wonder why colonialism had such a bad name? I guess it was just another dreamy "cause" that the "angry young men" of bygone eras could march in the streets for, which has turned into another nightmare.
