A politically-correct guide to film censorship : Comments

By Tim O'Hare, published 15/7/2020

Of course, once the values of 2020 are obsolete, we must limit film choices further because the only way we are to progress as a society is if everyone thinks the same.

Well said.
We live in interesting, if crazy, times.
And they will become even more so with imbeciles like trump and bojo around. Hopefully for not much longer.

More important than social distancing is mental distancing, if you want to stay sane these days. How many people would be watching Gone With The Wind now! Just ignored the bullshite.

It's funny how views change to support a certain new perspective.

I would have thought Gone with the Wind was actually portaying a positive viewership for negroes and their plight

Gone with the wind, has gone with the winds of time. Was historically correct for the time depicted. And, quite frankly my dear, I don't give a dam.

If we allow the race card to be played by activists wanting to right un-rightable historical wrongs!?

The only folk let to racially vilify without being labelled a racist, may well be white folk?

I get there were some bad people that did/are still doing bad stuff to good or innocent folk, women men, ethnic minorities, gays lesbians.

I think something that offends one group on clearly indefensible racist human rights grounds needs to be removed and quarantined. So it's still available to inquiring students as a reminder of what was once done/now unacceptable.

As long as we end the claptrap censorship by folk with puritanical Victorian values!

Allow nudity? But go all tropo over a little pubic hair!

Quite happy for the obscenities to be bleeped. Some folk may think they're Ok? But most folks are still offended by course, ignorant foul-mouthed language.

I've seen most of the films nominated here/see merit in most.
And often started a conversation about long-overdue legislation.

Thus, we've criminalised domestic violence racial vilification/sexual abuse. Legalised abortion/same-sex marriage.

Finally, I would like the example of being colour blind as evidenced in the armed forces, to be the social norm.

Otherwise, the activists will be playing the race card/the guilt trip on every available occasion.

At a time when we need to unite and cooperate as never before in the annuls of human history!

If an imported, against their will, race, (the Chinese) modernised and advanced a nation (Malaysia)! Should all they created be confiscated by the indigenous race because it's allegedly on their ground?

The past is a foreign country none can ever visit! Much of what happened never ever included choice!

Why even a Monarch, may have less personal freedom than a street beggar?

Time for a truth and reconciliation commission/moving forward as a united nation against an increasingly hostile world!

Naturally:

- Jane Fonda's "Barbarella" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbarella_(film)

- Racquel Welch's "One Million Years B.C" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Million_Years_B.C.

- and Pamela Anderson's "Baywatch" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baywatch

Should Stay.

Proudly inflated mammaries, barely beLabored by bras, are Liberating to the Sisterhood of Wimmin, througout HERstory.

Are they not?!

You could of course include the unspeakably vile sado-masochistic snuff/splatter movie featured in this review. A movie in which the "hero" representing every single living/breathing/feeling human being and humankind altogether was systematically beaten to death.

At the time it was promoted by all of the pundits of right-wing political correctness to be a superb missionary tool for communicating the "good news" of the gospel - even by the dark presence that infested the vatican at the time.

http://www.logosjournal.com/hammer_kellner.htm

The toxic world view promoted by that movie is still very much alive in America. Indeed its advocates are "spiritual" advisors to the Golden Haired anti-christ.

Dang!

The "Barbarella" Wikipedia string above, doesn't work.

Not surprising Jane Fonda did not see it as her best film. But neo-criticism of "Barbarella" now considers it feministically "empowering"

See http://girlsdofilm.wordpress.com/2014/07/06/jane-fonda-barbarella-and-sexual-empowerment/

"But a second viewing suggests that, despite the trashy, soft-core stance, Barbarella is an empowered female astronaut who attracts (and is attracted to) both men and women and always (if you’ll pardon the pun) comes out on top.

In terms of gender roles, it’s a movie with limitations but, considering the era in which it was made (the late 1960s), it’s surprisingly progressive.

At the time, the male-led ‘space race’ was at the forefront of many cinemagoers’ minds; Barbarella was an alternative – a female astronaut who was sexy, single and political – a highly dangerous combination."

Times change.

In Australia they have effectively killed off the adventure/documentary industry.
There was good clean informative watching of the films by Malcolm Douglas, Ben Cropp, Ron & Valerie Taylor, Mike & Mal Leyland, David Ireland & who could forget Alby Mangels.
Young people had role models to look up & entice their sense of adventure to get up & get involved in such activities. What is there now ? MKR, Talent quests with no talent, Ninja Warriors & the ever stupefying Football & Basket Ball ?
The have cooking shows interspersed with ads of the starving kids dying everyday, very thoughtful TV alright ! Is it any wonder the young are going mad ?
Why doesn't this Govt commission some Australian adventure Indie filmmaking to give the young some hope instead of back to back NCIS etc saturation American episodes ?

PC has always been and will always be the scourge of this new world order.
We, the pragmatic, mature of the bunch, have allowed this to happen.
Those who want to have conversations are simply taking the gutless way out.
While we are all conversing we get the scum pulling stunts like the one in Bristol, UK.
An affront to ALL mankind, these scum-bags put up a statue of some maggot of a GREY, not even a black, woman as a sick attempt at trying to seek mileage for the stupid BLM cause.
I was very relieved and happy to hear them say that, not only was the statue erected illegally, but it was going to be torn down, and I hope they melt the bloody thing back to it's base materials.
For too long the GREYS have been pushing these unrealistic and unjustified mantra's, and we have let them.
As long as they were just venting, it was tolerated, but now, enough is enough.
Time to shut them out and or down.
We have far too many minorities wanting far too many concessions, to the point where the majority can start to complain that THEY are becoming the minority and being sidelined.
Film censorship, is only just another brick in the wall of bias and virtue signalling.
I am one of the most outspoken on OLO and I know for a fact that the adjudicators have their finger firmly poised over the "shut me down" button, waiting for me to stuff up again.
The truth is, it's not possible to contain people, they will not be silenced, for good or for bad.
The problem with PC and censorship, I have stated so often is that it does not allow the truth to be told.
If a discussion deserves an aggressive delivery or an abusive one because the message is not being heeded, then it should be allowed.
We can never know the sensitivities of another, and like me, we should not care.
Allowing the fear of hurting someones feelings to suppress the truth, then your better off ignoring them.

Geez Pete, you love taunting the Feminazis with comments like those above. In Tim O'Hare's words: "...because the only way we are to progress as a society is if everyone thinks the same." Yup... up with the right arm to shoulder height, chant the relevant dogma, vacate your brains and march on...

the woke crowd were all promoters of porn. The hippies insisted it was harmless. Well another young 5 year old Indigenous boy 'allegedly raped buy 3 others under the age of 14. Yeah ban Gone with the Wind while ignoring deaths and tradegy created by the woke insisting on their indulgence of filth. Says a lot about the woke warriors. NO Protests?
