'Their' ABC’s Trump mania and the hatchet job on Carter W Page : Comments
By Laurence Maher, published 1/6/2020The ABC has been gripped by an institutionalised animosity towards the 45th President of the United States exemplified in its role as a spruiker for that part of the prolonged anti-Trump crusade embodied in the 'Russiagate' controversy.

Ignore the ABC luvies who comment here, if Trump cured cancer they would demonise him for taking so long. The sad thing about "their scary ABC" is that they have such power to twist the news, no politician dares touch them. Trump is he extreme example... can you imagine "their ABC" doing Planet China, North Korea, Germany, N Korea, EU, UN, WHO...….No, and they would be scared to do so as their leftie small audience would turn on them.
At least their antics and alignment with CNN is not takin seriously and would have no impact (except for our Australian reputation). However, their same bias and hatred of certain (i.e. non-left/Green)public figures is deceitful, dishonest, harmful and certainly Not in adherence to their charter. Just watch how they will do forthcoming documentaries/opinion-shows that will blame Morrison for the drought, climate change, bushfires and Covid-19. Thanks for the article, while its unfortunately nothing more than we have come to expect from "their scary ABC", its good to know others recognise this disgraceful organisation's News agenda, which of course is lead by its team in the Socialist Republic of Victoria from its plush, tax-payer funded, designer HQ in Melbourne. Your post is laughable. So Trump tells lies, and Clinton is honest. Pull the other one! And you expect people to believe, the ABC will give unbiased coverage to a Republican cause? Pull the other one again. Now the Democrats are scratching around at the bottom of the barrel, by ignoring riots which are obviously sponsored by them, and blaming Trump. What does the ABC say of that? I can imagine. Since I don't allow myself to be influenced by ABC bias and lies. And I don't support any political persuasion. What about the ABC series on world events since 1990, Road to Now.
Absolute joke. I will watch the rest of it, but don't expect much Posted by Chris Lewis, Monday, 1 June 2020 10:33:34 AM

it's a shame there is no really balanced current affairs on Aussie tv.

An excellent dissection by Maher, yielding yet more evidence of Their ABC’s indulging in fake news.
diver dan: ”Now the Democrats are scratching around at the bottom of the barrel, by ignoring riots which are obviously sponsored by them, and blaming Trump.” If Their ABC did not go out of its way to omit relevant facts, it would report that virtually all the riot-torn cities have a Democrat mayor. For 80 years, since a kid in the bush, I have been a rusted on supporter of the ABC. Today, for reasons so persuasively documented by L W Maher, I find it impossible to mount a convincing defence against the Right’s push to kill it off. The last line of defence, that we would be much worse off with a Murdoch monopoly, is hardly tenable.
The shortcomings are across the board, and include the “serious” programmes. Some Four Quarters episodes are so deficient in context, and sensationalist, that they do good causes serious damage; and the Drum is unwatchable, with its predictable line up ,and farcical debate confined within narrow parameters. It is an enforcer of identity politics and multiculturalism. I hope public pressure can be exerted on the ABC, to at least secure an undertaking it will adhere to its statutory obligations Posted by Leslie, Monday, 1 June 2020 3:14:33 PM

My experience mirrows Leslie. I watched more ABC than the rest put together. Now I watch 7 news which is juvenile drivel but preferable to the biased ABC and have not watched any general programs for two years. We really need to reduce ABC funding to equate with their bias, say fifty per cent reduction every year until they come to heel and follow their stated aims.

Leslie, lets hope we can fulfil your aspirations... "Our ABC" had values... "their ABC"is just an elisit club that provides safe spaces for well connected children of the rich and influential in the "arts/media" world.

As America's abc news pointed out at least 100,000 Americans (WHO DIED) were unimpressed with Trump's lack of leadership in botching the Corona Crisis http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-downplaying-deaths-claimed-us-100000-milestone/story?id=70888441 "In just under four months, more than 100,000 Americans are now reported to have died from the novel coronavirus, a grim milestone President Donald Trump once suggested the country would never see. Roughly a month ago, Trump, at a White House task force briefing, said, "It looks like we'll be at about a 60,000 mark, which is 40,000 less than the lowest number thought of." A few days later, on April 24, he again sought to highlight a lesser number: "Minimal numbers were going to be 100,000 people. And we're going to be, hopefully, far below that." "...Asked on [May 26th] what the president would do when the toll passes the 100,000 mark, the White House noted he had ordered flags lowered to half-staff over the Memorial Day weekend. Officials wouldn't disclose what else he might do or say to mark the historic moment." TRUMP PLAYED A ROUND OF GOLF TO CELEBRATE THAT MOMENT... Posted by plantagenet, Monday, 1 June 2020 8:34:54 PM

again, so much for Trump's high iq.
Blind freddy could see that US deaths were going to be high after early trends. He obviously uses his high iq to specialise in his strength as a salesman. Let't see if he successfully sells himself again this November. Posted by Chris Lewis, Tuesday, 2 June 2020 5:01:27 PM

Dangerous Doctor Donald has morphed into his new clown persona of Dictator Donald. All he needs to do now is dress up in some over done puncy generals outfit, stick a whole bunch of worthless medals on his chest, a big fat cigar in his gob, and wear a dark pair of sunnies, day and night. He would be complete!
BTW, I love the ABC. Posted by Paul1405, Tuesday, 2 June 2020 8:07:39 PM

Paul1405,
So, because Trump sees the need (as do most people) to put a stop to the rioting, he's a clown ? Are you implying he should just sit back & let the hatred get totally out of control ? Is that what you'd like to see ? I think you deserve the clown title much more than Trump ! Posted by individual, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 9:58:39 AM

The TV footage and photographs are disturbing
because across America police are responding to protests with excessive force. They're acting like thugs rather than law enforcement officers. They've drive an SUV into a crowd, tossed journalists to the ground and pepper-sprayed them. Beaten people with batons, blinded a woman in one eye. Launched unprovoked attacks. This violent behaviour needs to be condemned by all. Orders needs to be restored. There's no shortage of examples of excessive force by the police. In theory the police are supposed to protect the community. However when they're whacking the community with sticks and firing tear gas into it they're more like armed gangs than keepers of the peace. Seriously they need to de-militarize the police so that they don't appear to be an occupying army complete with armed vehicles. Perhaps Fire Departments could be better at addressing many of the situations that police are forced to deal with. Alternatives need to be looked at - and ways found for better ways of handling these situations that are obviously not about to go away. Posted by Foxy, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 2:32:59 PM

Regarding the ABC?
I've recently read an edited extract by Jonathan Holmes from his book, "On Aunty", with the title, "Bias, balance and the ABC, - is there anything for people on the right?". Holmes tells us that poll after poll done by Essential, Newspoll and Saulwick all show the support for the ABC remains at between 70 and 80% of the population and that the ABC is the most trusted news source in Australia, by a distance. However he also points out that surveys also show that the number of those who think that Aunty is doing a poor or a very poor job has almost doubled in recent years from 5 to 10%. He therefore stresses that the ABC must stick to the ideal of objectivity. That as a national broadcaster it must follow the recognised standards of objective journalism. He says that of course they can certainly provide analysis, based on demonstrable evidence using unemotional language. But they cannot be advocates. He argues (though no doubt ABC critics would disagree) that in its news bulletins, current affairs programs, on TV, radio and online text the ABC manages that pretty well. Holmes tells us that the small minority that disagrees is vocal, passionate, and probably beyond appeasing, should not be shrugged off. Because he says its the same minority, in essence, as that Liberal or conservative "base" that wields so much influence in the modern Coalition. It is therefore crucial that the ABC makes these people to feel that somewhere in its output online or on air, there are places where its views and concerns are heard and reflected and to the extent that the verifiable facts allow, given validity. My goodness, anything to prevent a personal assessment of the author's love of Trump.
Trump has proven to be utterly contemptuous of any notions of being a leader for all Americans and is a highly divisive figure who has a huge case to answer over the state of his country at the moment. Yet the author wants to claim Trump is being picked on by the ABC. What a snowflake effort. There are huge challenges facing the USA at the moment and the ABC has every right to point out the failures of the administration. Only Trump sycophants who are hell bent on distractions can ignore them as this author seems intent on doing. Posted by SteeleRedux, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 7:25:47 PM

Individual,
Trump made his political bones by peddling lies about the first African-American President's country of origin. Trump thrives on racial divisions. Us - Them. Conflict zones are his comfort zone. Perfect for firing up his base of support. Posted by Foxy, Wednesday, 3 June 2020 7:33:39 PM

runner,
Unlike you I don't hate anyone and criticising someone's actions is not hatred - especially those of a super power's President. It's part and parcel of a democracy. You are in no position to criticise anyone for hatred. The day that you stop with you stop with your own toxic comments will perhaps give you a smattering of credibility - until then - best you shut the F - up! Individual, I don't have the time nor the crayons to continue to explain things to you. Posted by Foxy, Thursday, 4 June 2020 10:24:30 AM
