He was one of the elitist knowalls who are still referred to as "experts" today. We need "experts" like we need a hole in the head. Can we really trust the same sort of "experts" now advising our government. Probably not.

Is stupidity classified as infectious or hereditary ? How much research is being done to eliminate the teaching of it ? Now, if that could be conquered that'd be THE NEWS in the whole history of man/womankind because it'd automatically eliminate countless deceases along the way.

Hey individual,

"Is stupidity classified as infectious or hereditary ?"

Forget all these 'Wars on Whatever'
The only war I care about IS 'The War On Stupid'
What other war is there, does it not all fall under this category?

That means if you observe something stupid you're more or less obligated to speak out and tell everyone it's stupid.

Bad things happen when good people do nothing.
This, therefore - is a non-violent form of correction.

* Don't doubt yourself, tell them its STUPID
- And if they disagree, then tell them that THEY are STUPID.

Liberty is constraint.
Where have we heard something like that before.

"Liberty is constraint". Sounds very profound, Jamo, but what does it mean?

Ttbn: It means liberty is constraint. That's what it means, as any fool with half a brain can see!

But to explain just for you. Freedom and liberty are paid for by ordinary law aiding folk observing those rules (constraint) which protect our personal freedom and indeed, do not impinge on the rights of others!

Alan,

I get it; you understand because you have the half a brain necessary. It's a pity that you don't have a full brain, because your 'explanation' is rubbish; means nothing. I'm not holding my breath waiting for Jamo to explain what it means either.

I'm afraid humans are redundant: Superseded by AI, the technological plague.

ttbn, I agree, the term "expert" just like "gay" seems to mean something very different to what it used to.

Oh, and the author seemed to be lamenting the proletariats pesky desire for liberty impeding the "experts" grand works. Not at all Orwellian.

Hey diver dan,
'David Attenborough said human beings are a plague'

Prince Philip once said "If I were reincarnated I would wish to be returned to earth as a killer virus to lower human population levels."

Both have been awarded the Order of Merit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_Merit

"All citizens of the Commonwealth realms are eligible for appointment to the Order of Merit. There may be, however, only 24 living individuals in the order at any given time, not including honorary appointees, and new members are personally selected by the reigning monarch of the realms, currently Queen Elizabeth II, with the assistance of her private secretaries; the order has thus been described as "quite possibly, the most prestigious honour one can receive on planet Earth."

It's funny how the world works, if you say humans are a plague or insinuate that a virus should decimate the worlds inhabitants, you're in the running to receive the highest awards on planet earth.
- These two are probably having drinks and celebrating COVID-19, along with the others in their little private club.

Jamo,

Yes. So many words are misused these days. Once, people called other people of special merit 'experts'; now average people call THEMSELVES experts mere!y for doing a job they were trained to do, often very inexpertly. Just turning up in their workplace makes them 'experts'.

I wonder if people are aware that the federal Chief Medical Officer has NO expertise in virology. I'm pretty sure his state equivalents are just as ignorant. Yet, they are calling the tune and giving advice to politicians. There are two genuine experts in the field. One is retired, the other is still working; both stuck to working at their 'trade' and were never tempted by the lure of a cushy public service sinecure. Both have been interviewed by more responsible journalist and have given advice contrary to the 'experts', but not once have they been me mentioned or consulted by the PM.

David Attenborough is senile; a lefty has-been who is making a fool of himself and everyone who takes him seriously.

ttbn: Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the greatest fool of all?

Incidental and again just for you, a constraint is something that prevents something, hopefully, occasionally.

Speed limits constrain speed and seat belt constrain you in your seated position inside the vehicle at all times, but particularly during an accident or collision.

Underage regulations and or rules, constrain the imbibition of alcohol or restrict underage sex. I hope that I've explained constraint well enough for a puffed popinjay or even a genius like yourself?

Take care and stay safe.

Alan,

You have a lot in common with poor old Attenborough. I won't ask what you are on about because I know that you don't know.

Prof Peter Curson is an retired academic, but his last statement says it all and we continue to ignore old wisdom....

""Writing in 1899 he said – “the brilliancy of modern discoveries blinds incautious eyes to old truths and often endangers sound practice”"

This is a small crisis in global history terms... its only extreme due to media inflation!
