Booing is for Babies : Comments

By Mark Buckley, published 24/3/2020

In VFL/AFL football there is a time honoured tradition of the crowd being vocal during matches.

Absolutely no sympathy for Adam Goodes, who brought it on himself with his petulant, thuggish behaviour.

I'm not interested in football, but I did watch a bit of the first game of the season just to see how it went without a live audience/crowd. It was awful. Footy is a spectator sport. It is nothing without the crowd. Postponing the season was inevitable.

So, from someone who doesn't watch the game, you know enough to condemn one of the greatest players ever, for petulant and thuggish behaviour? When you can, could you lend your dictionary to runner, who needs one more than you do.

Footy is a spectator sport
ttbn,
I have not once gone to a Footy match, Cricket, Tennis, Golf or any spectator "Sport". Whilst I appreciate that many people get a kick out watching there, I find individual competition far more interesting.
I'm not totally against these activities it's just that they drag on for too long for my taste, I lose interest after 15 minutes.
Watching Footy etc. has become no different to the incessant TV commercials for me.
I enjoy outdoor activities, not watching others for hours on end.
I must say, last night the TV Series 'Planet Expeditions' with Steve Backshall in the gorges of Oman was truly captivating to my mind !

Buckley,

I judge Goodes the person, not the footballer, so your sarcasm is wasted. How's the blog going? Comments still few and far between because of lack of interest?

Adam Goodes was a very fine player and sportsman. And a thorough gentleman who never deserved the ignorant, xenophobic treatment he got!

And just because he had a really, really good tan! And the best player on the paddock!

You'd think that now we could just get over ourselves and our white supremacy and Nazi-like, reviling of those who are ever so slightly different?

That day when Cathy Freeman crossed the finish line, wearing that wind-cheating full bodysuit. Who noticed anything other than she was an Aussie and simply the best!

We need to start judging people by the quality of their exploits and character, not by the colour of their nice tans!

If booing is for babies then what is tantrums, demonstrations, vandalism, denial, lying and sooking over the 2016 Presidential election. A similar thing where still the sooks can't accept the May election here in Australia. Can't help yourself Bucko but to see everything through racism, sexism and every other identity politics that has proven to be a total failure.

Goodes was a good footballer although often dirty, overpaid like many of them and was happy to give things out by pretending to throw spears and then sooked when a young girl called him a name. And you want to continue the outrage. I might need a dictionary but you need to grow up Bucko.

by the way Bucko, Goodes has been called and ape, I have been called a white maggot. And I doubt whether I have earned a tenth of what Goodes has. Talk about a snowflake generation. I also don't need to produce a movie to show how badly treated I have to receive racial abuse each time I have not given certain people grog money.

Oh dear, just the very mention of this man's name spurs the ugly, bleached white racists among us to raise their heads.

Half-witted use of the word 'racism' won't change Goode's character or the fool he made of himself in public. Nor will it make anyone like him better.

All I ever saw of Goode was some dance on the field. I didn't know what the dance was all about so I didn't see anything upsetting about it !
I have witnessed on many occasions when non-indigenous were called Wati Paru & Markai & they just smiled back. None of them got all upset !

I spent two hours on Good Friday watching the documentary, The Australian Dream, written by Stan Grant about Adam Goodes. It was the second time I’ve watched it, and once again, it moved me to tears. This excellent documentary is compulsory viewing for all who want a better understanding of Australia’s history.

Just like Lindy Chamberlain, Goodes was a victim of crowd justice, a virulent mob, intent on his ruin. What was his crime? All Goodes wanted to do was make a stand for what’s good and proper, right and true. And the mob hated him for it. Dare I say it on this long weekend, they ‘crucified’ him for it.

What was Lindy Chamberlain’s only crime? She stood up for the truth. For 32 years, she never backed down until the Northern Territory finally gave her a proper Death certificate stating the real cause of her daughter’s death. In the end she was vindicated. Truth always comes to the fore in the end. Goodes has never received any type of release or vindication in front of his accusers. One day this will come.
