Its so much like hg wells war of the worlds, where instead of aliens we had globalists roaming the earth devouring the little guy but in the end it was a simple virus that saved humanity

The panic is not "paralysing"; it's spurring the herd on to fight over toilet paper, mince and pasta, very actively. I hope "A behavioural scientist" will be available to tell the stampeding sheep why they are buying up toilet paper, because there is absolutely no need for doing it; it will have the same effect as buying holes or striped paint.
With all due respect to Mal, I am not reading all of his opinions on the China virus and how to act, because it will have as much effect on the herd as the advice from health administrators, food and toilet paper suppliers and politicians is having - none. The latest advice from a woman doing yoga on Palm Cove beach is that they have run out of food in Melbourne. Posted by ttbn, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 12:24:42 PM

Same old, same old.
Like the bushfires, every man and his dog are writing OLO articles, without saying anything new. Except in this case the author's constant observations on screens and social media. Posted by plantagenet, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 3:22:30 PM

sorry ttbn a behaviour scientist would be indoctrinated against that word sin. We are born into sin and selfishness and in the past our parents spanked us when we misbehaved and taught us manners and how to share. Now we have a self entilted selish virtue signalling generation that don't know that adultery, fornication, homosexuality and lying is sinful. You don't need to go past the bible to see exactly what is happening. The gw religion has been adopted by self righteous brats who actually have convinced themselves that a 16 year old autistic girl is a prophetess. Thankfully their are some young people who can see the truth despite the education system and regressives feeding them lies for decades. Posted by runner, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 3:53:31 PM

Dear runner,
Selfishness? Really? Do you mean this kind? “Greek Orthodox churches across the country will allow congregations of hundreds of people to sip wine from the same spoon during mass because "the holy cup cannot carry disease," the Archdiocese said.” http://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-14/church-religious-groups-say-coronavirus-cannot-infect-them/12055476 Or this kind? “South Korea is battling the worst coronavirus outbreak outside China. The country has reported 3,730 cases and 21 deaths so far. More than half of all infections involve members of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, a fringe Christian group.” http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-51695649 Posted by SteeleRedux, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 4:22:43 PM

well I am referring close to home Steelie where we murder about 100000 unborn babies a year thanks to godless selfish people. Yep just like the idiotic gw religion we have a few naive or irresponsible ones to that ignore simple biology. Yet as a regressive you only use biology selectively to not realising a baby with a penis is male.

The economic effect of COVID-19 is a warranted reason for slashing Public Service salaries !
Those over 250K/year by 20%, over 150K/year by 15% & those over 100K/year by 10 %. This would solve two problems at once. More funding for Health & stimulus packages or perhaps even a National Service scheme. The major future benefit would be a more even playing field in the job market & a good opportunity tp restart Australian manufacturing ! Posted by individual, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 6:09:58 PM

agree 100% Individual. Also get rid of the abc to prevent more fake news and Marxist garbage being spewed out.

In my opinion, a baby isn't a baby until it is born; prior to birth, it is an embryo or fetus. I do strongly oppose late-term terminations.

In Hitlers view Jews were not people.
runner, I doubt that, I think he thought of them as such a big threat that he saw what he did as the only way out or solution. Then again, how would I or anyone know what he or the Jews thought 100 years ago in an economic & social environment such as the one looming again right now ! Do you think those panic buyers right now are all that different from then, considering how they're emptying the Supermarket shelves without a thought of others ? I shudder at the thought how little it takes to turn people into monsters ! COVID-19 will bring out the Nazis among us ! Posted by individual, Tuesday, 17 March 2020 10:03:38 PM

Hey Individual,
"Do you think those panic buyers right now are all that different from then, considering how they're emptying the Supermarket shelves without a thought of others ?" What are they supposed to do in your opinion? Skip the 'emptying' part and wait until it's completely emptied? Head down the soup kitchen for out of date tins and stale bread? Maybe we should just wait until there's 10,000 cases and then go shopping? Maybe I can gaffa tape some KFC refresher towelettes around my head like a balaclava? I told you all. It will get worse before it gets better. I told you all the bogroll was a sign of things to come, but you all were bemused and did nothing. I've got maybe 4-6 months worth of food, for which I spent $800. - Buying the specials at Coles Woolies and IGA for the last few weeks, and extras at Golden Circle and the Bulk-Buy Butcher. 7kgs Angus Mince Whole Rib Fillet Whole Leg Ham $65 Topside Roast 4 Corned Silverside 2kg Sausages, 2kgs Bacon 50 Continental Pasta and Sauce packs - Mostly rice 50 Small Tuna Tins 12 Chicken Tins 10 Jars Dolmio inc Tuna Bake 8kgs Rice, 8 pk's Spagetti, 8pk's Shell / Spiral pasta 100 Campbell Soup Tins 50 Heinz Big n Chunky and Bolognaise Tins 6 Large Tins Tuna 6 Tins Sardines 25 Cuppa soups 100pks Various Noodles Vegetables Tins (Various) Fruit tins (Various) Biscuits 8pks Mac n Cheese 8 boxes cereal - (2 WeetBix) 60 Toilet Rolls 24 Litres Golden Circle Juice Tetrapacks 14 Litres Golden Circle Juice Bottles 2 Large Tins International Roast 200 Teabags 2 Tins Drinking Chocolate 10 Litres Devondale Long Life Milk 2 Pks Devondale Milk powder 200 Panadols Vicks Chest Rub Vicks Cough Syrup Vicks Cough Lozenges + few more bits n pieces. It's 3 months since the outbreak was officially reported. The writings been on the wall for at least the last 6 weeks. Still a few things I need to get, but I'm mostly prepared, and don't want to go shopping anymore, it's too risky. Posted by Armchair Critic, Thursday, 19 March 2020 4:54:24 AM

What are they supposed to do in your opinion?
Armchair Critic, Be considerate but we all know that's not possible so, all we can hope for is that customer limits are introduced. My wish is that this situation is jerking the morals of the average citizen because it is the average citizen that needs to pull into line ! I'm one of them & I'm not prepared to take 6 toilet rolls when there are five people lining up, I take one ! Posted by individual, Thursday, 19 March 2020 11:17:01 AM

Dear Armchair Critic,

Hey individual,
I can buy a 80L Oztrail Fridge / Freezer at Anaconda for $699 http://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/power-cooling/fridges/oztrail-80l-dual-zone-fridge-freezer/BP90154540 If I use Afterpay it means I'll only have to pay $175 upfront, and $175 for the following 3 fortnights. I can get 300W camping solar panels for $150 Then all I need is a Kickass battery box and a deep cycle battery. http://www.australiandirect.com.au/buy/australian-direct-battery-box-large/ADBB-LGE So total cost will be about $600 upfront and my fridge will stay cold FOREVER, I won't need power, and it can run on 240V in the meantime, I can load it with bread and I won't have to go to Coles or Woolies. Hey SteeleRedux
"60 rolls of toilet paper and you live on your own? So at least a years supply huh? You are a hoarder and a contributor to the shortages we are having to endure." No, I don't live on my own, I live with 2 others and there's a separate house on the property I live where 2 others live as well. Not only did I buy that list of stuff, I bought 90% of it on special. Otherwise it would've cost twice as much. FYI, 60rolls was 2 x 24pk's of Quilton and 1 x 12pk of Quilton. $12bucks a pk for the 24 and $7 for the 12pk. The first time I went for toilet rolls weeks ago I passed on a 32pk of Kleenex because it was that Cottonelle crap, so I took the 12pk Quilton. Then I went to Woolies and they had 24pks, so I took one. A week or so later I was in store again and they happened to have more 24pks so I got another. Why wouldn't I? - And I've been loaned a few rolls to others - Later I even bought another 20pk to share with others, so really I've got about 75rolls, which granted is too much. Do you know that you could've just gone to Bunnings and bought commercial rolls? Even now, my neighbours son says he works in a warehouse utterly choccas with them and can get a box of 48 for $17. I never broke any limits, I just got in early. When you lot were panicking about toilet rolls, I'd already gotten mine and was getting pasta and non-perishables, because I knew that's what it would be the following week. When you lot were panicking about pasta and non-perishables the following week, I'd already gotten mine and was getting meat. Posted by Armchair Critic, Sunday, 22 March 2020 8:05:32 AM

I got in a week ahead of everyone else. Why because I didn't want to be down there when the situation got worse, which I knew it would. I don't want to be down there with people coughing on everything and picking things up and putting them back. You want to blame me because others were complacent and unprepared, that's not my fault. Not my fault others live week to week and save nothing for a rainy day. I thought it was a rainy day and did something about it. You all had just as much opportunity to go down there ahead of the craziness just as I did. I'm happy to face the criticism from anyone who thinks I was wrong to stock up. Don't forget this thing started in December, and we're about a week from April. I've even borrowed a vacuum sealer to do up my meat so it lasts 5 times longer when frozen. $800 - $900 I've spent over 4 weeks. Was I wrong to do this? Worst part about this whole thing certainly isn't my actions. It's Coles and Woolies who've been fueling the frenzy by letting things run out on the shelf when warehouses and distribution centres are still full of food. Screaming for money and saying they're not going to pay workers when they're making money hand over fist. Posted by Armchair Critic, Sunday, 22 March 2020 8:16:37 AM

Dear Armchair Critic,
My apologies. A household of three makes a big difference. A question though, why did you buy them? Were you anticipating a shortage? Posted by SteeleRedux, Sunday, 22 March 2020 9:21:02 AM

Hey Steele Redux,
"My apologies. A household of three makes a big difference." Well we're all adults where I live and we do purchase for ourselves, (So there is a definite essence of buying up and hoarding for myself) - But the others are much less prepared than me, and are both also family so I'm probably going to have to share. I just thought it wise to go out early and make sure there was plenty on hand just in case things ended up being worse than expected. I didn't buy it all in one go, it was mostly specials over severl weeks and I went in several times each week and just got a few things from Coles Woolies and IGA, and I'd gotten nearly all the pasta and non-perishables before they put limits on them. I probably spent $300 on meat and $100 at Golden Circle Factory Outlet, so that leaves about $500 in total I spent at Coles Woolies and IGA over a 4 week period. (4 lots of weekly specials) I genuinely wanted to stock up, so I could avoid places like shopping centres when the virus becomes more prevalent, and issues like 'getting stabbed over a packet of pasta'. If I rationed out what I have there might be 300 meals. - If you count the Campbells and Heinz soup and bolognaise tins, the small tuna tins and the noodles - Do you think I've been greedy or wise to stock up?
