It's a good start for building awareness about the importance of protecting the nation's environment

Good luck with that, but particularly when the fundamentalists plus cronyism and nepotism, are front and centre, in control and lack even the slightest semblance of economic literacy.

Moreover, some sections of the community are completely consumed by fanatism and hatred of all foreigners and anything not conforming to their brainwashed BS, merely masquerading as a religious philosophy.

And as long as these sword-wielding lunatics/control freaks, exercise as much control and internal tolerance as they do, Indonesia will be avoided like the plague by investors with an ounce of commonsense to bless themselves with?

No offence intended!

30 years ago? And five minutes ago, Individual? Not impressed by a hard swing towards fundamental fanatism and its manifestations in politics. With stuff like a Christen Governor forced to resign by mob violence and managed/massaged rage.

Nor am I impressed by the concessions forced on the Indonesian President by an intolerant, religious minority of control freak thought and emotion police.

A hundred years ago, or so it seems, some Australian PM donated a billion dollars to be used by Indonesia for reforestation of its fire-ravaged economy and ecology.

Are we still donating? Will we ever come to the end of that program? And when will we begin another round of donating if so? Why don't we donate directly to the illegal loggers and ask for a discount for cutting out the middle-man? Or forget the discount and give them a billion, plus a million seedlings per annum to replace the trees they logged? Their soil in the forest, while still volcanic in origin, is impoverished after a couple of seasons of tilling. Who owns Nauru? Maybe the owner would consider a reasonable offer from Joko.
