Talk about delusional....a country gives up building it's own motor vehicle because the populace thought they were worth more than they were being paid, is now going to go start building nuclear deterrents.
The same country that can't build it's own armaments because someone told them they didn't need to is going to acquire a big stick to wave at others and probably end up poking itself in the eye.
And then we have the Jingoes who wrap themselves up in a flag representing little national fervour and makes the flag of the first nation people seem more symbolic.
The union jack is British and when the indigenous were being slaughtered it was by British policy under the Union Jack and not European under the flag of the unknown.

The reason why Australia did not suffer from the very significant indigenous uprisings by native people that the USA had was for three reasons. The first, is that native populations densities were extremely low compared to US. Arch left winger Jarrad Diamond in his book estimated total aboriginal numbers at 250,000 within the entire continent of Australia. The second, was that despite the First Fleet making sure that no convict was sent to Australia with smallpox, "carriers" (unknown to medical science at that time) were sent and almost wiped put the immune deficient native population of Australia. Thirdly, it was the young aboriginal survivors who saw in he coming of the white man the chance of a better life than living under the incredibly brutal tribal tyranny of the Old Men.

Lastly, there are practically no pure bred aborigines left (despite successive state and federal governments trying to protect them) and the ones who are left, still living in tribes on their tribal lands, are the ones who are the most dysfunctional.

The history of the world reveals a very simple plan. He takes who has the power, he holds who can. And that applies to Australia. We are still a sparsely populated continent with massive resources that is a tempting target for any expansionist power who's education system encourages patriotism instead of self flagellation. The reason why North Korea, Iran, Syria, India, Pakistan, Israel, have either acquired or are trying to acquire nuclear weapons is because they know that nobody will take your defences seriously unless you have them. Australia just got directly threatened with nuclear weapons by a criminal regime. Unless we develop the means to respond then we are taking virtue signalling too far.

Australia could have asked the US to park some of it's nuclear deterrents here just like it did in Israel.

I don't recall Syria acquiring nuclear know how but the what's the harm in stretching the truth.

You have been conditioned to think that you are part of some fashionable Brahmin caste of young and intelligent trendy lefties who think that they are God's gift to the human race. My own conversion from a lefty to a righty came about when I realised that those who supported leftism were, like you, the biggest social snobs around. The graduate class socialite socialists got rich and now all they want to do now is virtue signal and pretend that they are better than everybody else.
